If I can securely clamp it so the joint cannot move while the glue cures, I don't use epoxy any more. I have gone to polyurethane glue, such as Gorilla glue or Elmers Ultimate. A little goes a long way, it's lighter, expands and penetrates the grain well and can be sanded and stained.
Just be careful using marine epoxy for bedding, I tried on a 375 using microfiber filler and it seems to have compressed enough to hit the magazine box and ruin accuracy.
U.S., for that kind of crack problem use any of the Super Glues and allow a half hour or so for it to harden completely. It will likely take two or three applications to fill and seal the crack but the end result is deep penatration and it's oil proof too.
Any two part epoxy will do nicely for stock repairs. How you get it into the damage depends on what the damage is. Wee cracks can be fixed with one of the fine needle type applicators.
