Me Again, working on the Taurus, want to add some old style wood grips and tyle T grips to them. All the grips I see are big and fat or rubber.

Anyone make these for a Taurus? The shorter the better, I want to make a nice tight clean look.

No one.
In fact the barrel is way beefier than a typical J - Frame Smith.
I am however going for a more classic look, which is why I bought it in blue steel, with hammer. It was cheeeep way cheaper than the SW, even though mechanically felt more solid. To each their own though.

So if I put rubber ribber grips on a Smith am I trying to make it look like a Taurus?

Well I'm glad I'm not making a purse.
I'm taking a peice of metal and rubber, and changing it to metal and wood.

It will look sharp. Dont be jealous.
At least its not a Hi Point.

I had a stainless 85 with factory wood grips, almost identical to my father's chiefs special. They're out there.

Personally I have no problem with Taurus revolvers, and I have used S&W, Colt's and Rugers as well for a very long time.

That said, stocks like the ones shown in post #1 won't work on a Taurus. :(

Why not!

Because there is a large hole in the right/rear of the frame that would be exposed. Why the hole? Well it's used to locate the frame in a fixture during the time it's being machined. The rubber Taurus stocks are designed to cover the hole. A number of firms, inclufing Taurus offer wood so-called, "boot grips. My objection is the finger grooves that don't match my fingers.

S&W J-frame stocks can be made to fit by relocating a pin hole at the bottom of the stocks for the frame's locating pin, if you find a pair you like, and they cover the hole in the frame.

I got stock 85 grips coming from epay, now I need to order the Tylers and I'll post a pic when it all arrives.

I've got a few pairs of stock grips from Taurus that fit the Model 85, but they are not Magna style like your picture of the S&W above. They look more like boot grips, the area where you would put a T-grip is part of the grips.

Two of the best retorts on THR to date. :D Bravo and build-on !

Can't make a silk purse from a sows ear!!

Classic! I love that line! THAT is the best one retorts on THR.
As for:

First off, no sane person with any taste would put Taurus grips(the only ones with that kind of freakish grips on market) on a S&W.
As for your project, my father would say something like "it's still lipstick on a pig", I would have to agree. You will fool a few ppl thinking it's a S&W, till the second look reveals it isn't. Have fun!

And then again, one might question what sane person would spend hundreds more for a revolver that will do not one thing better, is living on their past reputation, and comes with a hole in the side for a key.
I have owned plenty of Smiths, but sometimes the smugness gets too much.

1. Except bring much higher resale/less depreciation at selling time(yes, some of us don't keep every gun we buy for life), Accuracy: I've never shot a taurus that was worth it's weight in sheep-dung compared to S&Ws, customer service: do we even have say anything about taurus cust serv? or quality.

2. I doubt that. Although Taurus is good at copying design and features, comes out with new stuff all the time etc, S&W has plenty of new ideas and projects going that saying it is living off it's past is ridiculous. That would be Colt.

3. I don't like the IL on newer S&Ws(one reason I don't own any), and it is ugly. Taurus hides their ugly hole for a key next to hammer.

4. It might sound like "smugness" to those who spent money on a Taurus, but facts are facts, learn them before you go insulting ppl, virrrrrrrg.:scrutiny:

S&W revolver people are definatly the "Gucci purse carrying prissys" of the gun world. Easily insulted and obessed with looks and image :)

wait... I own a S & W................

Do you get that assessment from the facts I pointed out above, or is this just a broad-stroke pre-conceived notion?

Indifferent - Very nice job!

IMHO the magna style grips and a t-grip are one of the best concealed combos out there. And to those slamming you for trying to impersonate a Smith...Whatever... If it works for you and its what you want, that's ALL that counts.
