As I understand it, synthetic stocks, hand laid fiberglass usually first appeared on competition guns as pressure did not change with humidity. Wood stocks cam swell, or twist with changes in moisture. They became popular for high end hunting guns, and were mostly aftermarket. Factory stocks followed and prices came down as they were made of molded plastic.
