I've been reloading about 6 months, all of it is 9mm. Have been shooting the 115gr. FMJ. I worked up a few loads for a 125gr LRN, using the following:
CCI primers
W 231 powder
Missouri bullets 125gr.. .356
Glock 19 with Storm Lake 4" barrel

I charged with 3.8, 4.0, and 4.2 grains of 231, COAL was1.115 to 1.125.

They all worked well, but were VERY smokey when fired and the breech was heavily sooted after 30 rounds..

Is this normal ?
Most of the receipes I found, were somwhere in this range.

Any suggestions ?

Lead bullets smoke more, and leave behind more grime then jacketed bullets, and there is no way around it.

It's the bullet lube burning off.

On the bright side, it cleans off easy!

I had a lot of smoke and dirt in a barrel in 9mm with Titegroup and Bullseye under lead bullets. RedDot burns much cleaner. Drawback is that the RedDot has larger flakes, and does not measure that good in small charges. I had to modify my powder measure to get consistent results with the RedDot.
