I'm headed to the Tallahassee Gun show tomorrow in the hopes of snagging a M1a scout with a walnut stock. I wouldn't dream of turture testing it, but these guys have a nice budget!

Tbe worse that I have done with my rifles is shot an SAR10 Ak until it smelled and felt like the wood handguards would catch on fire. This was after 5 consecutive 30rd mags.

Any have any memorable rifle/handgun tests?

I fell through the ice on a lake duck hunting once with a Browning A5 shotgun.
That was torture before we both made it back to the truck a mile away and got thawed out.

And I set fire to a M-14 wood stock once firing it full-auto.

Other then that, nope.

I dunked a Les Baer into a pond, swished it around in the muck:

Then shot it, just to answer a question on “tight 1911s and reliability”. After detail stripping it at home, and oiling every part, I would not recommend it though.

I treat my firearms very well and don't attempt to burn them up or blow them up.

However I have a bud who after taking his company out to the rifle range, ended up with ammo cans of unfired .223 ammunition.

He decided that carrying loaded ammunition to turn in was too much effort.

He had his "helpers" load magazine after magazine as he shot them full auto. I think he melted his handguards, maybe they caught on fire.

People do that to firearms they don't have to fix on their nickle.

I'm conducting a torture test right now. I live in one of the wettest places in North America and I've got an old Star Super tucked away in my truck. I'm using Eezox as the only lube and protectant. It's been in there since early fall and I check it every couple of weeks.

In the first week, the grip screws rusted because I hadn't Eezoxed them. I removed them, brushed off the rust, coated them and put them back. Since then, no rust at all on the gun or the magazines which are also Eezoxed inside and out.

I treat my guns with TLC. I figure the GIs that used them before I got them abused them enough. chris3

Pocket carry in New Orleans in summer. So far, so good, but I have to be careful to clean/oil lightly every evening. :p

I tried to make a Makarov malfunction within the first 1,000 rounds.

The idea was to put the gun through what might happen, carried short of damaging the gun.
Such as,

You draw the gun to fire but drop it in the mud. Round in the chamber hammer back. You only have time to grab the gun and shake it one time, then fire.

On the first trigger pull the mud blocked the hammer from hitting the firing pin. On the following DA trigger pull the gun fired and then fired the magazine empty.

Another test was pocket lint. I fill the inside of the gun with "pocket lint".
No problem.

Your Makarov is a car gun during cold winters.
I heavily greased the gun and left it in the freezer.
Only problem was the gun was cold to hold while shooting.:)

There were other tests like, leaving the gun and loaded magazine under water, limp wristing, firing the gun on its side and upside-down, etc.

The only times the Makarov didn't fire on the first trigger pull was when mud blocked the hammer and a dud primer in one round.

Last thing I did was try the Mak for accuracy.

There used to be a youtube video floating around where a guy locked an ak in a marina style boat locker full of salt water and sand for two weeks and then pulled it out and it shot flawlessly. Sorry for a run on sentence. I shoulda have been to bed 3 hrs ago; gonna get flack for it tomorrow! :fire:

BTW how is that Slide Fire stock legal?

Unless you count the time I went to the range with my future paw in law I'm afraid I've got nothing, but you can always check out this clip I found on youtube http://tinyurl.com/AK47-Torture-Test

I hope it doesn't fire up any AK vs M16 debate! For the record, I love them both! I use my ArmaLite when I want to hit what I'm shooting at and my AK when I want to kill it! :p

Gun torture? How about applying for a NYS pistol permit? My poor 6" GP100 and I were apart for about four months after I bought it. Other than that, no physical torture... I treat 'em well.

Post #7. I saw his video about a week ago on this. Truely awsome stuff he can get his hands on.

I put 10 20 round magazines through an M16A1 as fast as I could on auto. Barrel turned white and smoked all the oil off it. Didnt hurt anything else. Barrel was already bad.

I'm still into it.....working toward 400,000 rounds through my 870 TB trap gun...all original except for the receiver which cracked at 325,000 rounds. Maybe before but I hadn't noticed it.

I had a Smith mini-Sigma once I tortured to death. Loaded the magazine twice and shot all rounds. Poor gun couldn't take it.
