I have the oppurtunity to purchase an EAA Witness .45ACP. was looking to get a little feedback and personal thoughts on this pistol before i purchase. it has been ported and fires well. no problems that i can see with it. seller only wants $300 for it.

I had some kind of "Limited Edition" model EAA Witness .45 a few years ago that I bought off a work mate cheap. He was going through a divorce. I think I paid about that much for it in ~2001 or 2002. It was a good looking gun but I never warmed up to it. It was fickle with magazines and ammo. I swear it even made a difference whether the follower was red or green... I gave it to my Son-in-Law rather than mess with.

For a .45 it pays to go with a good name like Sig, Ruger or a decent 1911 IMO. I got a nice CPO Sig P220 for $506 2½ years ago. Life's too short to worry about parts & magazine availability and persnickitiness about what ammo it'll eat. But, my S-i-L likes the Witness just fine.

I just traded a cz 97b off IIRC its about the same pistol . The only complaints i had with it is that it was heavy , and huge for the mag cap. It shot real well as all of the cz design seem to lol . I just did not shoot it enough to justify owning it when i got the " different gun itus " desiese .

Buy the Mec-Gar mags for it and its a great gun. Newer EAA .45 mags with the red followers seem OK, but the Mec-Gars are cheaper.

Count Glockula. I wouldn't say it was particularly comfortable or uncomfortable. It was just "okay" to me. Like I said I never warmed up to the gun probably because I believed there was something better out there. For me that turned out to be the Ruger 97DC.

For $100 more I got a used gen1 Glock 21 that beats the Witness hands down IMO. IIRC the 97DC was cheaper than $300 from CDNN when they sold them out a few years back. I also suspect that wally is right about the Mec-Gar mags. I've never had a bad one and they might have made my Witness a winner if I'd tried them.

The steel framed Witness pistols are one of the best buys out there, but from what I've read, the polymer framed models are hit and miss.My g/f has the full size steel frame 45 and loves it.I own a Witness Elite Match in 40 and it's the most accurate gun I own.I have a friend that carries a 10mm steel framed compact,it's also a good shooter.

In answer to your original post,if it's a steel framed 45,either full size or compact,go for it,you won't regret it.Polymer framed,if it was me,I'd want to put 100-200 rounds through it with no failures before I'd buy it.Good Luck...

thanks for all the feedback. it is a steel framed. it is very comfortable to shoot, very low recoil, just a little loud, but what can you expect, lol.

I'm still amazed how many threads turn out like this one. Someone asks a question about a handgun and most if not all the answers are about anything but what was asked.
Q. What about product X?
A. You should buy product Z.
Q. But what about product X???
A. NO NO NO, product Z is much better. :banghead:

RGTStang03,
Welcome to the forum. I'm sorry I too didn't answer your question either. I would have if I knew anything about an EAA Witness .45ACP. Sorry I went OT but it's just amazing how this always happens. At least I'm honest about not knowing instead of telling you to buy something else. I hope someone will answer your question soon.

I'd go for the Witness, I have a ported PS model (polymer frame) that I got about 1997 and it has had zero issues after several thousand rounds. Also an Elite Match model I got in January, probably only 1500-2000 rounds through it, that is the most perfect gun out of the box of any I have ever had.

I've got 4 mags for each of these, the PS mags were bought at different times, and have never had a magazine problem of any kind.
