After reading some reviews, I'm considering a CZ 712 utility for applications that do not involve flying game.

I like to have some kind of sight on anything that's going to be used to pitch slugs. does anyone know if there is anything preventing drilling and tapping for a scope mount?

Not as far as I know.

The receiver is aluminum alloy, so if it is thick enough on top to get three threads in each screw hole, it should be a simple matter to drill & tap it for a Weaver scope base.

I'd think the Weaver #417M Mossberg base would work fine.

However with that said.
I might be inclined to "glue & screw" the base on a hard kicking aluminum shotgun receiver.
Use Lock-Tight Black Max adhesive under the base, and BLUE #242 on the threads.
