Would this suffice for the real man-stopper?

Wikipedia didn't reveal too much on this (nothing). Looks real enough to me, just like it would to anyone on the business end.

Reminds me of Hellboy.

This looks like the real life equivalent of the Samaritan from the Hellboy comic books and movies.

Well similar in the fact that they shoot "wrist breakingly" large rounds.

A 457gr .600 cal bullet at 680fps? Very interesting... I've kind of wanted something like that ever since I read Bowen's book, but I haven't run across one of these Belgian copies really. I wonder what the rest of that guy's collection looks like?

Fella's;

So what? It's just another wimp-gun. A veritable weak-kneed bedwetter as it were. Comparing energy figures to the modern handguns of .454 Casull ilk & up, it's just an ephemeral wisp of a thing.

I took a look at Hornady #6, volume II, just because. Now Hornady doesn't list that particular bullet weight & velocity, but conclusions can be drawn.

Let's take a 300 grain bullet & launch it at 700 fps. Muzzle energy is given as: 326 ft lbs. OK, now let's bump the bullet weight to 400 grains & push it to 1100 fps, the slowest speed given in the tables for that bullet. Energy is 1075 ft. lbs. I do believe that Hell Boy's gun has been trumped by a rather less-than-max load for the .480 Ruger.

But wait, there's more! Here comes the .500 S&W, pushing a 500 grain bullet to 1350 fps in the Hornady #7 manual. See what I mean?

Looks like the cousin to the "Trantor" revolver... ( Not sure if I spelled the name right. ) It was a .577 cal or something of the like.

As for how much of a man-stopper it is... well... I'd stop just from looking down that gaping muzzle.
( At very least I'd be looking for something solid to hide behind. :p )

Put a couple of those fat slugs in someone--you should really get their attention (I know the muzzle stuffers from the Civil war did nasty things to bodies even with their relatively mild energy figures (put a slug over half an inch in someone will do some serious damage:evil:

IIRC, there was an article in one of the gun mags a couple months ago with something similar to that. One of the custom sixgunsmiths reworked a ruger redhawk, made custom brass, and then loaded the thing and fired it. Pretty cool article.

J.D. Jones created the .600 JDJ for his custom Encore/G2 shop, and it runs a 1000+grain bullet out of the muzzle at or over 900 fps as best I can remember. That's more fun than this guy wants.

It would be interesting to try for a 4-5 shot revolver, -if- you could get it to where it didn't hurt too much to shoot it... What's the lowest speed where something like that could be effective? I'm thinking that I definitely wouldn't want to be in the way of a 400 grain flat point moving at 600fps...

More thinkage... If you've ever seen what a deer slug will do to a gallon jug of grape kool-aid (think "barney blood...) at 7 yards... And that's one ounce moving at, what, 1100-1200 fps?

A semi-auto shotgun, like a Saiga, tuned to shoot lower-recoiling, 1/2 or 3/4 ounce slugs at 750 fps would be downright devastating -and controllable- for a farm defense weapon.

No, more like 1700 fps for a 3" Remington! 1200 fps is Reduced Recoil speed. And plenty reduced- no need for lighter & slower, too!

can someone contact "RalphH" and beg him to
make a youtube vid of his Thumper in action?

pleaseeeeee.

( where does he mount the stock?)
