My local gunshop has a high polish stainless Centenniel .357 with ivory grips. The salesman said it is a special order. The purchaser was denied his purchase permit(domestic violence)and never picked up the gun. I could get the gun at a substantial discount from the $600 ticket price.

Only problem is the personal engraving on the gun- a full color confedearate flg-Yep-the old stars and bars,,,,Can not imagine carrying the gun or even having it in my house. If I shot someone with it I would be lynched.

Any opinions ?:banghead:
 
Why would you be lynched? It's just a flag. And honestly, if you think that some random engraving on a gun used in a self-defense shooting is going to mean jack in court, you've got another thing coming. Anything short of "Born to kill underpriviledged minorities forced into a life of crime to support their starving families" engraved on the barrel isn't going to be a serious issue.

Bottom line - if you want it, get it.
 
If you like the gun, buy it and remove the engraving. Either pay a gusmith to do it or you coult probably buff it out yourself with some fine sandpaper.

We had the pleasure of having the Reverend Al and his cronies here a number of years ago with the trouble that they caused. A number of innocent people had their careers destroyed because of that lying little xxxxxxxx.

A Confederate flag would be considered as a definite mark of a racist that was out hunting poor underprivileged, misunderstood wealth redistributers. See we are not allowed to have pride in what our grandfathers did and what they fought for so many years ago..No one will admit that maybe the concept of states rights as opposed to a centralized authoritarian government was not all wrong.

Must be politically correct.:cuss:
 
Dang! Let me buy it! I'm a Confederate re-enactor so I'd have a good excuse for carrying it. Besides, here in Nevada, nobody would care!! (You really should move to friendlier territory..)
 
If the engraving is on the sideplate, then buy the gun and replace the sideplate.

Last time I checked, Sharpton didn't mean jack in a court of law. Show me one citation of any sort of engraving or similar modification made to a firearm affecting the verdict of an otherwise "good" shooting in court, and I'll take back what I said. Otherwise, my point stands.
 
Buy it, use it, and enjoy it. If need be duracoat it.
Don't you guys up around NY have some sort of special Bloomberg Colors or something?
 
Buy it and buff the engraving off if you really want the gun. Yes, you would be crucified in the media jut for the flag if anything happened.

If you do no live in this PC area, you really have no idea about stupidity up here.
 
You don't have to shoot people with EVERY gun you own, at least you don't have to here in Idaho. ;)

If it is really that good of a deal, get it and just don't carry it.
 
If the engraving is on the sideplate. Where they usually are, since it is a blank spot see what Smith & Wesson would want to replace the side plate. OR, let me know how much it is. Sounds like a nice piece.
 
I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Nothing wrong with a little Southern Pride! It would be great to show off to the Yankees I'm currently surrounded by.

Of course, that's assuming it doesn't have the *&@$^*# lock, which I find more offensive than any flag. :)
 
I wouldn't pay anywhere near that price for the gun, but I wouldn't hesitate to buy it for a more reasonable $300-$400 price.

Then again, my family moved from Missouri during the Civil War, and originally settled just a few miles from where I currently live. ;)
 
Buy it at a discount, and sell it at a profit to one of those guys down south who love it so much. From the strong appeal I see in the posts above, you can add maybe two hundred to the price. They'll be very pleased, and you can take the money and buy whatever you want. Win-win.
 
Who did the engraving? If it was the S&W custom shop it could really enhance the value of the gun down the road.

Besides, what's the big deal about the confederate flag? Like it or not, it's part of american history. It sounds to me like you're attaching significance to it that is personal, not historical or factual. I say buy the gun and leave it the way it is, if it turns out that you just can't stand owning it there are plenty of people here that would be happy to take it off your hands, including me.

BTW, I can't imagine grindding down the surfaace of a brand new gun to try and remove someone's artwork.
 
Why would anyone be afraid of a Confederate Flag? If it were a symbol of freedom for Al Sharpton's ancestry, he would display it whether anyone else was offended by it or not.
 
When I read stuff like this, I remember my Great-grandfather, John Clooney. He was drafted into the Union Army in Boston, discharged in Galveston, Texas, and came to Lake Charles, Lousiana, where he settled and became one of the leading citizens.

All of his friends were also veterans of the Civil War, but on the Confederate side. When he died, he had a full-page obituary, which prominently mentioned his service in the Union Army.

His surviving friends wanted to be sure his wartime service was honored, but were afraid some thoughtless person might vandalize a Union tombstone. So he has a Confederate Veteran's tombstone.;)
