Would you guys buy this at this price?

sounds fair to me, I like wilson combat for special purpose guns, but remington is coming back with that price--although if there are no modifications to the actual function with exception of 8 rounds, then I may not pay so much, rather build one better with a slick action

Right now I have a Norinco copy of the 870, with ghost ring sights added by factory, holds seven and is pretty sharp but the action is stiff and the stocks are cheap, with a little smithing and a couple hundred dollars I will have a slick gun in a couple months

Nope. I try to stick with the old used Wingmaster pawn shop specials at around $150. I prefer wood, and I can do a lot of customizing (or buy a lot of ammo) with the $400+ dollars I would save, plus someone else already put in the elbow grease to smooth up the action.

Heeeeck no. No way.

Pretty paint won't make it shoot better. A gimmick choke tube? Gimme a break, a $17 plain MOD RemChoke tube will do as well for me. Pistol grip stock? No thanks.

I'll take a mechanically sound $150 used-rack Wingmaster or old model Express any day, and give it a good cleaning. Then add a good 18" or 18.5" barrel with rifle type night sights ($140 from Remington, when they have them, which ain't often), 2-shot Remington magazine extension and clamp ($19.95 from Numrich a while back, I bought several), 12.5" LOP Speedfeed II 'solid' stock and forearm ($28.50 from Numrich and cut down), a good recoil pad ($30 or so), a 6-round Sidesaddle ($25) and a Streamlight light mount ($15). Then BA/UU/R.

$150+$140+$19.95+$28.50+$30+$25+$15= $408.45

And the Cinderella 870 with a handy 18- 20" barrel and nothing else will do just fine without all the other goodies hung on it, too.

Saw one for sale yesterday, an nice older Wingmaster 2 3/4," good wood and bluing, with a 28" VR barrel AND an 18" 'bird' barrel. $300 for the package. Ought to have bought it on GP, and might buy it yet, depending on whether or not a bid I have in on another pumpgun goes through. Cheap? No. Nothing cheap about buying a mechanically sound modern classic pumpgun at a good price. That's being frugal, not cheap.

If a gussied-up 870 like that one floats your boat, go for it and enjoy it. Your money, your choice. But the shooter makes the gun, not the other way around. You can't buy skill and ability no matter how much you spend on hardware.

Stay Safe,

You boys are set in your old school ways. I like Camo but not that Camo. The pistol grip on the speedfeed stocks are to long. I like them a little shorter. The Benelli pistol grip plastic stocks are more my style. I like the extended coke. That is a lot to pay for a Remington 870 express. You could have a nice auto for around that price

I have to think that this gun

would be functionally equivalent.

The pistol grip detracts from the 870's renowned pointability, IMO. The standard stock is quicker on target; that's why hunters use them. Full game bags talk, BS walks, in the field. If I ever do have to confront a burglar, I want the gun to be as quick and predictable as the one I use on quail, not just have that coveted "assault shotgun" appearance.

Of course, if you really want to, you can stick the SpeedFeed stock on the gun yourself. The stock set in black costs between 75 and 80 bucks from your favorite on-line retailer.

If you really want camo and/or a coated gun, you can choose your own from a whole list of camos, and do it yourself. Complete cano kit, 100 bucks. You can choose to do the whole gun, or make it look like the one above, or whatever you want.

+1 for Nope. And +1 for the 870 HD Armed Bear posted.

I actually find the desert camo ugly looking. The unpainted, unmatched magazine tube and clamp to the rest of the shotgun kind of, well... lacks attention to detail. :D

Greg, since you're coming out to Angeles sunday, I'll drag out one of my 20" Wingmasters. It'll have rifle sights instead of a bead sights, but it'll maybe convert you to a Wingmaster too. :D

I've converted 2 people to a Wingmaster, there are good deals for used Wingmasters you could build on with a little searching.

That's a nice looking HD gun, there, Majik!

(Added benefit: should you ever have to use it, a shiny, pretty Wingmaster doesn't make it look like you were harboring Rambo fantasies.)

Thanks AB!

I actually have a beater 870 that I use. I bought it heavily used and uncared for, it was my "Cinderella" 870. Cleaned it up (actually found tree leaves in the receiver behind the bolt), and still in the process of putting more dings and wear into it. This one has a +2 extension on it since I feel it handles a bit better, the +3 extension tends to make it significantly front heavy.

Gosh I love these 870s...

I gotta agree with my fellow Californians, ArmedBear and Black Majik. BTW, if you are meeting up with us this Sunday at ASR, I'm bringing my 870 Wingmaster TB (along with a 20" rifle-sighted barrel) and my 870 Police and you are welcome to try them both out.

My Police model is very similiar in configuration to the one in the ad posted in post #15 by ArmedBear. The main difference (in addition to it being a Police model) is that mine has a walnut stock. It is very simple and very handy. I did get a chance to try out the Home Security model before I bought my Police model and I gotta say the Home Security model is a great value.

To expand a little on Beetle Bailey's 870 Police, there are a few more advantages of the Police version over the Express. The police model is also parkerized instead of matte blued, and it'll have a metal triggerguard instead of plastic as such on the Express models. The short walnut forend stock also allows for sidesaddles without modifications to the foreend. There's quite a difference in smoothness comparing a Police model to a express model also.

That shottie is HAWT!! Totally matches my MARPAT headband. :p

Beetle Bailey and Black Majik were hoping you'd show up at ASR today. They specifically brought out their Wingmaster and Police 870's for you to peruse. Too bad you couldn't make it. Maybe next time, eh? ;)

Not at that price. I put together my Rem870 breacher brand new for about $400 and could add the SF-IV for another $75 if so inclined. That price includes the gun, the breaching attachment, and HK Black Duracoat finish. Why I'd pay an extra 200 for a pixelated camo job doesn't make sense.
