I have an HK USP .45 usp for sale/trade. I shot it and it's an amazing shooter and 100% reliable. It's in excellent condition, 2 mags, kydex holster, uncle mikes rubber grip. Variant 1.

I've got an offer to trade it for a SW 1911 PD full size. Seller claims to have fired 600 rounds flawlessly and says it's in near new condition. 2 mags.

I like 1911's and have a few, but only have 1 HK USP. The 1911 does the same thing, but is slimmer.

Would you make the trade?

The SW1911PD is a great pistol. I own one. It carries beautifully, is reliable, and is accurate.

I also have a couple of USPs. I liked them, but they are chambered in .40S&W and I just don't shoot that much anymore.

In the end, it depends on what you want. I'd call it a fair enough trade if you got a gun you liked better. Because of the HK glitz, you might want to ask him to put in a bit of cash to make it even.

I'd stick with the HK. You allready have 1911's, and you said it's 100%. In todays age of 50/50 chances of getting an auto that actually works, i never trade a reliable one. (especially for a 1911!)

Unless you have anything against HK Usp's?

I am a big fan of the 1911 style pistols but I also really like the USP's..I wouldn't trade myself..I have been looking for the Mark 23 with no real luck..Anyone want to sell one?

I've seen a lot of remarks here on the forum along the lines of "I used to have a <insert gun name>, it was great I wish i hadn't traded/sold it" which lead me to believe you should keep the HK. You'll come to regret trading it away, especially in light of the fact you already have a few 1911s.

Funny thing in that I'm kind of in the same boat you are, only I'm looking for an H&K USP .45 (well, the Compact) for my fishing and woods gun. I am a 1911 aficionado to say the least, but I have always wanted the H&K to take with me for the grunt work. That is, it can get dirty and wet and brush up against a tree or two and just keep going. It's not that I don't think my 1911's can do that because they can, but I want a gun that's low(er) maintenance and can take a licking and keep on ticking while I'm out in the trees or on a trail.

If you can afford to buy the S&W and keep the H&K, do it. Otherwise, if you have no real 'purpose' for it and it's just another shooter, then go for the 1911. You can never have too many, but it is nice to have a different gun in the family from time to time.

I think its a good trade. I guess it all depends on how much you like the HK.

You already have 1911's so just keep the HK. I sold my HK to buy my 1st 1911 though. I don't mind having another HK but i will not buy one co'z it relatively expensive compared with its group.

HK Pros:
DA/SA
Decocker and Cock/lock feature
Reliable and accurate (as tested - my pistol)
Big and sexy
Easy to field strip
Comfortable

HK Cons:
Way too big
Only 10 round mags and additional mags are pricey

1911 Pros:
Venerable design
Sleek, thin and sexy
Cheap plentiful mags (I have several mags and 3 1911s already)
SA and cock/lock feature

1911 Cons:
Don't know how it really performs; many are picky eaters

S&w 1911

I believe that S&W's 1911 is one of the finest, if not the best 1911s with out going to a custom, or semi custom 1911. I have owned quite a few of the. Three of them shot even up with my Wilsons, Les Baer, and Ed Brown. The others were just very good shooters. All of them could out shoot me. It's just that the very good examples made it easy to shoot. So my advise is make the trade. Good luck with whatever you do.

Keep the HK. Newer design than the 1911, and why get rid of a known commodity for something that's unknown. And, as someone said above, for a 1911?

Don't get me wrong. I love S&W autos, but the 1911 isn't one of the ones I like.

Most 1911s out of the box need work before they're anywhere near as reliable as a newer-designed weapon. If you ever get a shot at a S&W second or third generation pistol, go for it. Those guns are great and they never jam.

The S&W 1911 is a sexy gun...but it's still a 1911.

I'd keep the HK, but it seems like a fair trade. It comes down to personal preference and intended use.
