Would you play and enjoy my version of "Gun Golf"?

  • Absolutely! Can we get it in for the Beijing Olympics, or is it too late?

OK, so this is a great idea: http://mountainbikemilitia.com/gungolf.html

As is this: http://inventionshowcase.com/golfballlauncher.htm

However, this device is what got me thinking: http://www.surplusrifle.com/reviews2006/fore/index.asp

Imagine if you will, on a full-sized golf course, with golf carts with gun racks on the back. These firearms would need threaded barrels, and each would be equipped with a golf ball launcher attachment to the muzzle.

Single-shots would be ideal, in fact, if you don't have a caddy, a Thompson Center Encore might be ideal (although a lot of barrel changing would be necessary).

Blanks are used to fire the golf ball, in some cases, reportedly up to 500 yards!

So you have a .30 caliber rifle for a driver, a .45 Long Colt rifle or such as your "irons", and a Sig Mosquito or a Walther P22 with a threaded barrel as a "putter".

Golf rules, but with guns.

After circumventing the myriad of gunsmithing and legal osbtacles, who's game?

Also, this is a pretty neat video. http://www.stupidvideos.com/video/just_plain_stupid/Slow_Motion_Golf_Gun/#25579

I think it'd be more fun to take .22s and actually shoot golf balls around a minigolf course. (Assuming of course, a safe backstop, etc...)

seems fun but it would be pretty hard to get it in the hole because you cant determine the strength you want

That's where the different calibers (and energy) come in. Also, on a fast green, one might need to shoot the ball at the ground and let it roll toward the hole...

You wouldn't be going for "nothin' but net".

I also forgot to mention that this thread and poll are welcome to people with a sense of humor ONLY ;) although the thread title should have clued you in to this detail.

I've had a Bloom launcher for a few years now...off of a 16" AR-15 I think I've just barely managed to hit the 200 yard line. When I bought it, the guy who builds them told me he'd seen closer to 500 yards with an SKS, but I've not had the chance to try it yet (somewhat skeptical).

The real problem is getting it into the hole once you've got it on the green...

As an aside...it's amazing how much wind deflection those golf balls suffer due to the really low muzzle velocity. Incredibly bad drift in even light to medium winds.

getting it into the hole on the green. couldn't u shoot the ground right before the ball making the bullet go into the ground under the ball and pushing it forward and not as fast as if it would have been hit directly?

Those attachments are meant to be used with blanks. I think a bullet would mess up your ball pretty badly.

OP, 3rd link, figure 5; totally cracked me up!
A bit of thread related trivia courtesy of the USGA: The word 'fore' is Scottish in origin, and is a shortened version of the word 'before' or 'afore.' The old Scottish warning, essentially meaning "look out ahead," most probably originated in military circles, where it was used by artillery men as a warning to troops in foreword positions. Golfers as early as the 18th century simply adopted this military warning cry for use on the links.
