I picked up a box of 40 sw re loads at a gun show. After getting home I began to question if I wanted to fire them or not. I don't know if the're reloaded properly or not. I don't want to damage my gun by a re load some yahoo did wrong in his basement. What do you suggest?

I tend to err on the side of caution when it comes to reloads... I shoot my own reloads and the reloads from ONE man that does some reloading for me. I don't think I'd shoot reloads from someone I didn't know/trust. YMMV.

Would you use someone elses re loads?

No, I wouldn't. It's not worth holding your breath on every shot, wondering whether this is the round when everything goes ka-blewy. As a previous poster said - error on the side of caution.

Hey brabham78
I shoot Cowboy matches, and a lot of us the same guy to reload the brass. If you know the person,I dont see a problem at all.
Thank you,
Henry

No.

Well, I might shoot a few in their revolver, not mine. (I sometimes left ppl shoot my guns at the range, but I tell them I'm shooting reloads. I don't give them reloads to shoot in their gun)

I especially would not shoot someone else's reloads in .40S&W unless maybe out of a S&W 610.

I never really thought about it until I started reloading.

I guess it would depend.

If I had a chance to watch them reload, observe their checks, and then see them shoot their own reloads, I may be more willing to shoot their reloads.

I know some who are meticulous with their reloads. I also know of some that have zero QC on their reloads, and it shows when they are on the range.

No.

I'd trust my reloads to the end of the earth but I won't trust anyone elses reloads.

Not that I don't trust them personally, but see post #10.

I used to shoot a lot of competition mostly PPC. Eventually, I ended up at a mach and my ammo stayed at home, not the best of plans. A fellow competitior, a fellow I had never met or talked to, heard what happened and offered me enough ammo to shoot all my matches. After that I carried enough ammo for two matches. I was fortunate enough to save two other shooters a bad day at the range.

I guess it depends on the circumstances.

It's like sex, only if I know the person REALLY WELL. And only if I have seen their reloading setup and practices.

Never, I only shoot my own. There are way too many people who are reloading that shouldn't be. Read some of the threads in the handloading section. What some people consider a common practice is beyond belief.

Nope, no way, never.

If I didn't know them I certainly couldn't trust them.

And if I did know them well, and they somehow screwed-up and caused me injury, it might hurt the friendship.

Best not to risk it just to save a few bucks.

I have. They were my grandfather's .45 reloads for his Colt that I inherited. I was a little nervous about them at first but I shot all but a few and they behaved perfectly. I just wish I had spent more time with him learning how to make them myself.

One of the guys who works at my local gun shop once offered me some his .357 reloads but I chickened out the last second to pull the trigger. Unless you know them personally and their reloading habits I wouldn't take the risk. I still hesitate to let others shoot my reloads though I've shot near 2k rounds without issue so far.

It depends. I have used store bought re-man ammo with good results in .40 and .204
but the .40 stuff worried me so I didn't shoot it until I did some research and made the judjment that it wouldn't scatter my glock. I have used re-loads in my black hawk .44 that were not mine but I have quite a lot of faith in that gun and the guy who loaded the ammo. I tend to skip the zip lock bags of reloads that I see at the gun show, saving two bucks and blowing up a gun and my hand just doesn't seem smart.
I have seen a couple hand guns and an AR15 blow up at the range when the owner was shooting their own hand loads... No thanks.

store bought reloads are what got me into reloading,

after a dbl charge in my SF1911-A1 45acp i figured i could do better, and in 30+ years now no problems

One option would be to pull the bullets, dump the power in the lawn, check the brass and reassemble with a starting load of a forgiving powder.

I shot HSM reloads in a rental gun once, that's about as far as I'm willing to go. The range only allowed their ammo in their guns. They trusted HSM, I wasn't too sure, but nothing bad happened. It was 45 Auto in an XD. That firearm and cartridge combo is pretty secure.

How do you guys feel about Georgia Arms... a company that does reloads and sells them at gun shows?

Would you trust a "factory reload"?

Sure......If I know the person. I know an old man who has been loading his own for close to 50 years and would trust his stuff over factory ammo.
If I don't know you very well, hell no.
