I have a G.I. wood stock that was picked up at a gun show in the early 90's. Was thinking about refinishing it but never did. Not gonna at this stage of the game........ ( retired & cleaning out the shop and man cave ) . Not sure if it's walnut but I could get some pictures of it and post 'em if you're interested. Also have an original G.I. handguard but it looks like you already have one on there. Gotta clean this place out. Interested ? Let me know.

thanks, I appreciate it and yes I'm definitely interested :)

Checked with Z's Sarco website a little bit ago and it turns out they have a bunch of really nice usgi Surplus Walnut stocks available for $75 a piece
When using a GI stock you have a big hole where the selector would go. This is not only very unsightly, but it results in less-than-optimal bedding in an accurized semiautomatic rifle.

You can fill in the hole with colored epoxy, but this still looks unsightly. What I did on mine was to carefully carve a plug out of a piece of walnut with matching grain, and epoxy that in place.

Of course, you can get a new Boyd's walnut stock and use that. What I would caution here is that these come in different profiles. For example, they make a "fat" profile for competition use. But that won't work with a GI M2 bipod.

I would not recommend a dummy selector. This precludes optimal bedding, but it also might draw unwanted attention at the range. I'd rather not have to explain that it's a dummy.

Here is some sound reloading tips for reloading the M1a/M14. Experienced reloaders of the M1 and M1a/M14 know that the gas systems on these require the use of specific powders to avoid high gas port pressures ,bending op-rods and cracking receiver heels.
