Wow... more "obvious" 1911 questions that I can't find anywhere.

Ok, now I already know how terrible of a person I am, dont bother reminding me...

But i have a set of grips from an old paintball gun that is THE MOST comfortable piece of rubber I have ever felt.
I've been wanting a 1911 for awhile now, and I'm leaning toward a Kimber Ultra or Kimber Compact Carry (or other brand with 4" barrel)

My question is this... Does the smaller frame take the same size grips as the full size 1911 frame, or does it have its own smaller style of grips? If it takes different grips, could someone who owns both full and small size framed 1911's measure the distance between grip screws on both frames, and let me know the dimensions?

God... gun shopping is the most frustrating, enjoyable thing :)

Quick and dirty lesson about M1911 style pistols and how they're commonly referred to:

Government = original full size military pistol, 5" barrel

Commander = 4" barrel, shorter slide

Officers = 3-3.5" barrel, compact slide & frame. What some market as 'compact' model.

Government and Commander sized pistols share the same pistol grip, these can be interchanged.

Officers sized models use their own much smaller grips.

Kimber makes pistols to specifications matching original Colt designs so you should be able to fit any aftermarket products. I do not know if this means that your paintball stuff will match. Paintball guns also have no recoil.
