I had been storing a lot of tools for my dad while they were between homes with a garage.
My parents are staying with my sister while they are in escrow and since we are moving very soon, I moved the tools to my sisters house.
Just before I left, my dad says - hey that covers everything you were holding for me except for one thing. He said - I want you to have that rifle.
He inherited it from his grand father - may have been great grand father, have to ask again. Its a Winchester 63 - a semi auto, tube fed .22 with a little 2.5X scope and a leather scabbard. It is in very good condition. (I understand it can be quite valuable, but I would sooner sell a kidney).
Last time I had it out, I think the firing pin broke, but I plan to get it fixed. It shoots very well and my dad says when he was a boy, no squirrel was safe when he carried it.
Anyway, I have never inherited anything - especially a family heirloom and especially not a gun before! Dad is still here, for a long time God willing but man that made my day!
This gun is not "on paper" in any way and is legal, even in CA as such. However, I told him that I did not want it until I move to Texas because technically, in CA, I would have to have it transferred. I am assuming that it does not have to be papered if it is transferred to me when I get there.
Well, just thought I would convey this story. Some of you probably have inherited whole armories of guns - my great grandfather had a HUGE collection that was split among lots of relatives and he knew my dad always liked this gun and made sure it went to him. When I pass it to my son, it will be 5 generations.
