Back in the late 60's my father purchased a colt 1908 hammerless for my grandfather. It was probably for home protection.
When My Grandfather died in 91 all his guns were scooped up by my messed up uncle. My uncle was a cruel sick SOB.
My dad not being materialistic just wrote off all the things his brother stole
which included all his childhood guns.
In 1994 my uncle went apes*** and tried to murder his wife and 13 year old daughter with a .22 rifle he fired off about about a dozen rounds into a closet they had locked themselves in. Ended up shooting his wife 7 times
thankfully the daughter came away unscathed and his wife suffered only minor injuries. Then my uncle turned the gun on himself.
After the funeral my dad got the Colt .380 back because my grandmother was able to save it from the feeding frenzy over my dead uncles huge gun collection.
Just yesterday I went to pick up my father for a day out and he presented the pistol to me. I was very surprised.
Its actually the only heirloom I will probably ever receive.
It was manufactured in 1915 and is in about 95% condition with very little wear.
I'm really proud of my dad and feel honored that he passed down to me the only item that was left to him by his father.
