Wow, what a shocker - IANSA dancing in the streets about the US Midterm Elections!

US elections show gun control is not a vote-killer

The US Congressional elections this week showed that the pro-gun lobby there is not as powerful as it claims. Around 95% of the candidates endorsed by the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence won their seats. By contrast, the National Rifle Association spent a great deal of money supporting pro-gun candidates who lost – including six candidates for the Senate who each received $1 million from the NRA.

Rachel Stohl of the US Small Arms Working Group said it was difficult to predict any possible impacts on the gun debate at this early stage. She said gun issues cut across political lines and control of the House of Representatives by the Democrats could not be considered a victory in itself for supporters of tighter gun controls.

“The gun issue remains extremely politically sensitive and very dependent on regional contexts and it cuts right across party lines,” she said.

Rebecca Peters, IANSA’s Director said the results had highlighted a particularly critical issue.

“Strong gun laws are not a political death knell,” she said. “In the context of the United States, policies supporting tighter gun laws have traditionally been seen as a vote killer in many states but clearly, that’s not the case at all. US political candidates can support strong gun laws and still win elections.”

I highlighted that one phrase to illustrate that IANSA is not content resting on it's laurels just because the Democrats have the House. Yet, sure looks like they're pleased with how things went. If anything, this will fire them up and get them motivated to WORK.

IMHO, it is VERY unwise to dismiss the global gun-ban movement spearheaded by IANSA...!

Especailly given that John Bolton, our pro-2A UN Ambassador, will very likely find himself in the "unemployment" line soon....!

IANSA is the enemy, and they never sleep, but their statement is a stretch, in the same way that the Brady victory dance is a stretch.

Most of the Dems elected stood on pro gun or gun neutral soapboxes, and those that didn't were already in GFW territory, where the outcome was a foregone conclusion. Therefore, the election did NOT turn on gun issues, and their blanket statement that gun rights is not a political third rail doesn't hold water.

Nonetheless, it's predictable that groups like IANSA and the Brady's would stand at the parade's finish line, claiming to have lead the parade.

And remember, even if they win.....they lose.
