This is common. There is some slack in the retaining grooves of the hammer and trigger pins, such they can move slightly in the frame - basically as you described, shifting from flush on one side and slightly proud on the other side, to slightly proud on the first and flush on the second.
The Wrangler has the same lockwork and structural design as the Blackhawk, Super Blackhawk, Vaquero, and New Vaquero. The hammer pivot pin is retained by one of the bottom rear grip frame screws and the trigger pivot pin is retained by the loading gate detent spring. Neither pin will push out by finger pressure and will not walk out with use until the revolver is disassembled sufficiently - removing the specific grip frame screw to free the hammer pivot pin and then removing the grip frame entirely and depressing the loading gate detent spring to free the trigger pivot pin.
