wraping a lever action's loop

I've been told that wraping the loop of a lever action with a leather boot string will cut down on the beating your fingers take while woorking the action. I have the string but not the wrapig skills required
Can anyone tell me how or point me in the direction of dirrections...W/ pics if possible.

It's called common whipping. Normally it is used to keep the ends of rope from unravelling, but it would work well for wrapping a lever for comfort.

Make sure that you Wax or oil the lever before you wrap it to prevent rust, I wrapped mine and forgot that leather will hold water and it now has spots of rust.

I would just experiment a little. I would try doing it with something of a braid, kind of like they do with bread, try looking in a Betty Crocker cook book on the bread section.
