Did anyone catch the episode where they made reactive targets?

They mixed two unknown ingredients and said that it would not blow up if you shot it with a pistol but it would blow up if you hit it with a high powered rifle.... they said that it was perfectly legal.

They preceded to tape small envelops to clay targets and shoot them with a shotgun and they made a nice, mid air, explosion and then they proceeded to blow up some appliances with a rifle and more of the mystery powder.

What do you recon the powder was? Apparently, a shotgun at 20 yards? had enough energy to let it off but a pistol don't... what's up with that? They said it took velocity to ignite the powder, what kind of FPS would bird shot have @ 20 yards?

They will likely be sued. Tannerite is patented, and registered. Without permission from Dan, they broke the law by making it. But you can order all you want. Just be very careful, and don't mix it until you are ready to use it, and don't mix it then transport it, and don't try to receive any sort of compensation for the use of it. These are all federal charges. Here is a good videohttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_HRyAG2xqU

A couple friends and I split a case of Tannerite several years ago, it really was a blast. Sure have to be careful though, as we almost got hit with flying debris.

I used to live less than two miles down the road from Tanner. I talked to him once but didn't know him otherwise.

I'm really surprised that shotgun pellets would set it off at all. I know that a .22 LR won't, unless this is something different. Maybe it's like those square cardboard-and-styrofoam exploding targets you used to see everywhere.

My post about this got locked a couple days ago. :cuss:I'll bet a mod will be around soon with a freshly keyed padlock.

Yeah, I seriously doubt it's illegal to make it yourself. Provided you don't LABEL it Tannerite and try to sell it, I can't see it being prohibited via patent.

After all, it's just...nevermind.;)

It's patented? Genius!

I've always understood that something about the projectile being supersonic allowed it to set off the mixture. I'm not sure if it's EXACTLY supersonic, or just a certain high rate of speed or energy transfer though.
