WTK: 870 Barrel Lengths & Capacities?

6+1 is the 18", 7+1 is the 20", assuming extension matches the barrel.

IMO, except for behemoths, the best extension is the 2 shot one. Muzzle heaviness with the longer ones gives that "Pig on a snow shovel" feel to some folks. We can add weight at the butt end for balance but there are limits.

Is that the 6+1 with 18" bbl? Not sure if stock 870s came with 4+1 or 5+1, the gun store clerks kinda frown at me loading the shotties up :D

Which do you use?

I was thinking along the same lines, like a buttcuff, do you think it would hinder bilateral shooting unreasonably?

To help out here:
The standard, (non-magazine extension) Remington 870 uses a 4+1 mag tube. 4 in the tube and one in the chamber, no matter what the barrel length is.

WITH a mag extension, the 18" gun has a 6+1 setup, and the 20" has a 7+1 tube.

My personal thought is, that in a defense/HD gun, the 18" barrel is about perfect, especially if you go with no mag extension.

One has a 2, one a 3 shot, Skunk. I'm a behemoth, but if I were doing it over, the 3 would be a two.

Re buttcuffs, hinders the heck out me. Big forearms. Weight in this case would be added to the bolt hole in the stock. See old TFL thread on recoil reducers...
