My wylde chambered AR with 1/8 twist barrel seems to like the mag length (2.260" oal) sierra 69gr, but doesn't like 75gr VLD Hornady AMax rounds loaded just off the lands.

Is this a common preference for wylde chambers to prefer mag length ammo, or disapprove of VLD bullet designs?

What bullets and OALs do you use in your wylde chamber ARs?

In my experience the A-max likes to be jammed into the lands.

doesnt that make it virtually impossible to extract an unfired round w/o pulling the bullet out and dumping powder all over your action?

There's a bowl of apples and oranges here... I'll try my hand at separating. Every gun is different in some respect and may prefer different ammo to gain maximum accuracy. However, your wylde chamber gun's preferences do not necessarily mean that every wylde chamber gun prefers magazine length ammo or does not like 75gr bullets. The OP didn't list the reloading recipe, so the possibilities are endless in terms of load and preference. I'm sure someone will say they get great accuracy with 75gr bullets at 2.260". Another may say their wylde shoots 55gr or 69gr bullets better. It has much more to do with the specific gun than to group up wylde chamber guns and make a generalization. BTW, my 1/9 wylde shoots most accurately with 55gr Hornady V-max with Re-10x @ 2.250"; Hornady 75gr HPBT with TAC @ 2.260" are ok, but nothing to write home about.

well, my loads are
1) full sized LC '08 brass, 25.5gr of varget, and sierra 69gr bthp loaded to 2.26"
2) full sized Lapua brass, 24.5gr of varget, and 75gr hornady amax loaded to ??? (just off the lands)

After going some research, it sounds like Bill Wylde would use 80gr sierra bullets loaded to the lands and 69gr sierras loaded mag-length. FWIW.

It has less to do with your chamber and far more about your particular barrel's ability to handle the different weights at the velocities you wish to run. You can mess around with COAL to the lands, but it all comes down to if you're running them through the mags, you pretty much have to set them at 2.25-2.26".

Why would you need to take it out?

I also shoot a Wylde chambered rifle. Mag length anything Sierra shoots well. 75 A-Max shoot well with a .030 jump in my rifle. You will need to find your own "sweet spot" for your rifle. Berger VLDs like the .03 jump, but JLK VLDs need a good soft jam.

Generally secant ogjive bullets do not like to jump while tangent ogjive bullets jump fine.
