Dropped by a local shop today and they had received some XD 45ACPs yesterday. Needless to say, I walked out the door with one and put over 200rounds down range later in the day. A great shooting pistol!!!

more!!!???

Please, a bit more of a description, what did you like/dislike? Compare it to other 45's you have/have shot? What did you get it out the door for?

This will be my next handgun and I would love to hear more real-world experiences with it!

Thanks in advance!

popaye85:

Got it for $479.95 plus tax. In comparison to other 45s, I'd say it I like the way it seems to fit the hand perfectly and just naturally acquires the target, like all XDs. I'm not a .45 expert although I also have a Colt Model 70 series 1911 and Sig 220, so I won't get into the which is better discussion as there are characteristics of all three that are outstanding. I love the Sig 220, but I think I will be favoring the XD for a while. The XD is also spot on using the Insight M6X laser/light on the rail.

I want an XD 45 ACP because I love the way my XD 9mm and XD .40 fit my hand. Plus I like to point and shoot accuracy of them. Glad to hear you like the .45.:)

looking to purchase one for myself...glad you liked it..though I wish I could just walk into my local gun shop and walk out with it the same day...oh well enjoy it.

Camper,

Congratulations on your new XD-45acp!

Comparing your Colt 1911, Sig 220 and the new XD-45acp...which one has the least muzzle flip?

Thanks! :)

DISCUSSER: That is a question I'm not prepared to answer. Recoil from any 45 has never bothered me and I've been using them for 40 years. Each weapon is different and amount of recoil is load dependent. Suffice it to say that the XD45's recoil is minimal to me and target reaquisition is not a problem.

Surely if you've been shooting .45 for 40 years you should be able to describe the differences in felt recoil between the XD and a 1911, even if the differences are minimal.
I can say with certainty that the felt recoil and muzzle flip of any of my steel 1911s is less than that of the HK USP45 or USP45 Tactical.
I've never shot an XD though, so I can't comment, but I'd be interested to know.

Good deal camper! That is definitely on my list of must haves. Unfortunately for me, it'll have to wait because of my recent acquisition of a Kimber Warrior .45 ACP and a Sig Sauer P226R .40 S&W.

Harrydog, got to tell you that when I was firing the XD, the recoil and muzzle flip of the 1911 and 220 did not enter my mind and there was no mental comparison at the time. I will say that the recoil is probably less than my 1911 and 220, but won't say further till I take all three to the range and fire on the same day.

I'd like to hear your impressions after you've done that.
I'd be mildly surprised if the XD had less muzzle flip since it weighs 1/2 lb. less and seems to have a higher bore axis than a steel 1911.
