XD Compact vs. SR9-C??

I love everything about the SR9c with two gripes:

1.) The aesthetic nightmare that is the LCI

2.) Feels a touch top heavy

The ruger has a big ol' red painted FLAG with a description written on top (something like "Chamber loaded when up" or somesuch) that a lot of people don't like, i'm sure you can find a picture on the internet somewhere. It doesn't bother me, personally, but really turns some off.
It looks easily removed, but mine turned black pretty quick and that suits me just fine. :)

I would take the XD9 subcompact over the SR9c any day. You can also shoot any mags from other XD9mm with this gun.

the SR9c takes the full sized mags too and even comes standard with the handle extension.

I have both guns and shoot them on a regular basis. I can't really find fault with either gun IMO. If I was forced to pick one it would be the SR9c. Ruger really hit a homerun with this gun. The gun has a good out of the box trigger pull and it fits in my hand comfortably. My next purchase will probably be the SR40c.

External lever safety's are a deal-breaker for me on carry pistols.
Almost all pistols designed for carry are safely designed to where they don't "need" an external safety, and when milliseconds count, I don't want something that could cost me a half a second when I'm under duress.
The idea that a safety would prevent a pistol from "going off in the holster" is nonsense because NO pistol will "go off in a holster" if the holster is a proper one that encloses the trigger.

I've got XD's, an LCP, and a Rohrbaugh along with a few J-frame Smith's, and all are carried with chambers loaded with the only requirement to fire being that of pulling the trigger. I would not have it any other way with a carry gun, and especially when my wife has access to them. If she needs to use a pistol in defense and under duress, her mindset will be to only pull the trigger, not figure out how to "enable" the gun to fire.

So, for carry, no SR9c for me. I am however, considering the Kahr CM9 or CW9 (only difference being grip length and capacity) to add to my carry collection. They also do not have external safety's.

As far as the XD's for carry, they are thicker than any single stack, but if clothing allows, it's nice to have the extra capacity when possible.
For summer wear, it's usually the Rohrbaugh or LCP.

I bought an SR9-C and I love it. The pistol shoot's great, fits my hand perfect and to me, it has great balance. The gun has enough heft to it, that the 9mm cartridge is a pussycat.

I have an XD-40 full size, its a great shooting gun, but Ruger hit a homerun with the SR9-C.

The loaded chamber indicator on the SR9C is designed for "night work"... you can run your hand over top of your gun and tell if it's loaded in the dark without having to spill a round out of your magazine. You may think it's big and ugly, but its the most functional of any in the market for that purpose. There's no mistaking it because of it's location and how it shapes when tilted up.

My XD has one too, it's just not sticking up an inch it seems. In the dark I have no trouble feeling if there is a round chambered. Same goes if it's cocked since it has a cock indicator too.

Gotta say I really like my XD. Though it's a 45 compact.
