Hi all,

This is my first attempt at a forum so bear with me. I have an XD9 s/c that i like alot but in my CQC IWB holster it is a bit thick and its hard to avoid printing. also its SA only configuration causes a bit of concern for carry. I have been thinking about jumping to the sig P239 instead. I like the single stack and DA/SA config., also the de-cocker is a plus as well. I know sigs have a great rep but when I hold the P239 it tends to "Rattle" which makes me nervous. I dont have any experience with Sigs.
I dont know whether to be content with the XD (which 9 i really do love) or make the jump to the more versatile P239. So please share your thoughts of comparison and help me make an informed choice.

My P239 will rattle a little if you shake the hell out of it. It doesn't rattle at all in the holster. Unless you belly dance while you're standing in line at the supermarket, it isn't an issue.

I understand wanting to conceal, but it seems to me like you're a little too nervous if you're worried about some minor rattling.

welcome to THR. i carry a sc xd everyday back in the states. i have a xd sc .40 and it is a great ccw. i would keep the xd for capacity. one thing that i do is carry the 9rd mag with extended base plate and then my 2 reloads are the extended 12rd mags with the frame extenstions. you get the service model capacity in a sc frame. plus i love the xd in all other aspects so it is natural that i carry one. i don't really understand the concerns about carrying the xd because it is"sao" i have no issues with mine. use whats between your ears, it is the best safety that you have.

maybe you should look at some other holster options and that will most likely remidy the problem. i have a nice kydex iwb holster that i like but i like my don hume open top belt holster better, must you go iwb if not there are many great owb concealable holsters out there.

I'm a little confused exile870..... When I compare the specs of both guns they are almost identical, actually the P239 profile is larger. Also, the height of the P239 is larger!

What type of holster are you using?

XD SC
Length Width Height Barrel Length
6.26 1.2 4.55 3.01

P239
Overall Length 6.6 inches
Overall Width 1.2 inches
Overall Height 5.1 inches / 5.2 inches
Barrel Length 3.6 inches

I'm using a Blackhawk CQC IWB (black leather)holster. The grip on the P239 is thinner (single stack) so there will be less printing I assume. plus the mags would be easier to slip onto a pocket. The XD mags are pretty thick and squatty.
I think I'm still just a little uncomfortable with carrying with a fully loaded striker pin aimed at the round thats aimed at my backside! I know folks will say that its totally safe and that the XD has the grip safety and the trigger safety etc, but i think round in battery/de-cocked would bring more peace of mind.

Hey, Exile, looks like you're in the mood to pick up the Sig. If that's the case, go for it.

Don't be suprised if you have some second thoughts after awhile if your nod is to the P239. On the other hand, I doubt if you could be served better whichever choice you made.

My 239/9mm slide also rattles if you shake it. It shoots more accurately now than when it was new and 'tight'.

Rattling magazine

I noticed a "rattle," as well, but not one coming from the P239 itself.

My experience has been the following. After I load (any of) my P239's 9mm magazines with a full 8 rounds, even after "tapping" the primer-side flat portion of the magazine on my palm, to make sure the flat side of the cartridges are fully "seated" against the back plane of the magazine---at times, when I shake a fully-loaded P239 magazine "sideways" (back-and-forth) at that juncture, there will be a slight but noticeable "rattle." Not all of the 4 magazines I own exhibit that characteristic, and it may change from load-to-load, also when using different types/brands of cartridges. I believe the "rattle" may be coming from one of the cartridges shifting back-and-forth against the magazine wall. FMJ cartridges seem to do it more often than hollow-points (go figure). To date, I have not noticed this phenomenon with an empty magazine, nor with an empty gun, nor or with an empty magazine locked inside in the gun.

When I load the gun with that full magazine which "rattles,", and shake the gun, the rattle still persists. However, when I remove that "rattling" magazine from the P239, and shake the gun empty, there is no rattle whatever.

If some would like to try this, I'm curious what your experience will be, even with another caliber of P239, not just with a 9mm.

I again tried all of what I stated above, and was able to verify that my personal observations are factual, yours may be different.

Would like to get some feedback from y'all, thanks.

My P239 9mm slide rattles. Mag or no mag. The barrel however locks in "tight"-tighter than my CZ. The 239 is also very accurate and reliable with any ammo.
My son is in love with the XD and we have looked at several. Specs or no specs the top end is more square/blockier than my Sig or CZ75B. That may cause the printing.
