gotta love JB Kwik!!!!
i've taken the take-up out!!!!
a little JB Kwik and we're done.

here is a pic of the sear/firing pin safety lever. the gap that you see between the 2 parts is were the pre-travel occurs.

here is where you put the JB Weld / JB Kwik (JB Kwik sets up in 4 minutes)

here is a pic of the sear/firing pin safety lever w/ JB Kwik. the rear of the sear and firing pin safety are even. after the JB sets up, you can join the 2 parts together to get good contact.

the trigger traveled ~.15" (after the trigger safety was dis-engaged) until the break. the reset is super short too. if anyone has ideas for taking removing over-travel, i'd like to hear them.

Perform at your own risk!!!!

Wow, were you a little bored? :D

Hope it doesn't 'cause any malfunctions or ND's. I'm sure it does feel nicer than the mushy G trigger.

the safety lever still has to travel the same amount. the 2 parts still work independently, so if for some reason the sear trips, the firing pin safety is still active.

BTW, i just checked the trigger weight and it's breaking under 2.5#'s. this is also after taking 2 coils off of the firing pin plunger spring.

this was all done my range gun. i've gotten my G24 down to about 2#(which i still like a tad better) but if i can get the over-travel removed i'd be happier with the XD.

For some reason this makes me very uncomfortable... I wouldn't recommend even thinking about trying this, or using a gun modified such as this for carry. That being said, I wouldn't even want to be on the firing range with this.
You are absolutely sure the safety still functions as advertised?

in my XD, the safeties still work. the FP safety is all the way down, like it would be stock, and does not deactivate the FP safety until the trigger is pulled. i put a pencil in the barrel, cocked the XD, engaged the grip safety and tripped the sear with a screwdriver (without touching the trigger) the pencil didn't move. gripped the XD, pulled the trigger to dry fire and the pencil went flying. grip safety works and well as the trigger safety.

i would never use a modified gun for carry.

I stripped down my XD to examine your mod for myself. From what I can tell, your mod results keeps the FP block from reaching full extension by keeping it slightly depressed, although not quit far enough to let the striker go forward. Also, it moves the sear monoblock down which results in a significant reduction in mating surface between the sear and striker.

I would be a lot uncomfortable carrying an XD with this mod on a daily basis. I can appreciate having a light, crisp trigger, but I want it on my bull's-eye gun, not on my carry piece. My XD has a buttery smooth 5lb trigger, and I have full faith in the fact that the gun will not discharge until I intend for it to.

Brad, i had to remove a small portion of the JB to barely clear the safety block. the FP safety is fully extended, but it's not getting pushed all the way into the slide (which is why i had to remove some JB). from the starting position, the sear and the safety lever are in the exact same position as an un-modified XD. the sear is still making the same contact, the main difference is that the safety lever is not moving as far as it usually does. modified, it moves upward about .07" less.

Hmmm... It's an interesting exercise... Maybe it's not that bad of a thing... I could see this on the longslide Tactical XDs as a comp gun for bowling pin, bullseye or IPSC... but IDPA, I'd think not. For carry... no way.

Wait a sec... I know XD's are pretty accurate. But are they accurate enough for bullseye work? Maybe with a custom barrel.

yes, my little experiment is just because i like to tinker and it was raining. i found a XD-40 Tactical at a gunshow a few weeks back for $300 so it thought "what the hell?" i currently don't participate in gun games, but i thought that my tinkering may spark other ideas from people that read this.

if you use JB Kwik, it sets up really quick and it hardens to a point that you can try it out in maybe 15 minutes. if you don't like it, it should come off fairly easy.
