I suppose you folks know about this already but in case you do not here is something off of Kim DuToit's blog today.

12:33am: Hi-Cap Mag Solution?

In my earlier post Hurting The Soldiers, I talked about finding hi-cap Beretta 92 mags, and sending them to the Sandbox -- a tough job, because the damn things are like hen's teeth.

From Reader Junyo:

I don't own a Beretta 92, but I do own a Springfield XD-9, and a Keltec Sub2000 carbine which both use/can use the 92 mags. One thing that XD owners have been doing is buying the Beretta 96 (.40SW) mag as a 9mm hicap. It will double stack 15 rounds of 9mm without issue (sometimes the last round won't feed, but the mag lips can usually be tweaked to correct this) and if it fits those other magwells it should fit the service pistol one as well. And they should have no problem obtaining them.

I didn't know this was possible, because a.) I don't own a Beretta 92, and b.) seldom bother with hi-cap mags anyway.

Can any other knowledgeable Readers confirm what Reader Junyo has suggested?

Because if this is true, there is a gun show in Mesquite TX this weekend, and I will buy two or three Beretta .40 S&W mags, and send them to people out in the Sandbox, after the proper "tweaking".

And if it's true, I hope others will do the same.

Update: Okay, it works -- the mag lips have to be bent ever so slightly inwards to allow the last round to chamber. Now go and buy the damn things. I'm waiting to hear from my sources how best to get the mags over to the Sandbox.

The XD40 (.40 S&W) mags can be loaded with 15 rounds of 9mm and used in the XD9's, with a little tweaking of the lips on the mags, so there is probably something to that.

If you are looking for infor on the Xd you should check out

www.hs2000talk.com IT is a sight similar to THR but their main focus is XD and the earlier HS2000. Great site, I picked up really nice XD40 from another member for only $360.

XD-40 mags are the way to go...

use the berettas only if you dont have access to XD-40 mags....

I now have cough syrup w/ codiene...anyone wanting a holster today is STUCK!!:D

cracked butt, No. Berretta mags are longer and xd mags don't have the slot for the mag catch. Mark

That works with most models that have 9mms and .40s using the same frame. For example my CZ .40 mags work as higher cap mags in my 9mm. According to posters at CZ forum the BATFE has said that it's perfectly legal to do this as long as the mags are not modified to where they no longer work in the gun they were designed for.

Keeping with the "mag must still function in the gun it was designed for" rule.
Recently at a gun show we found a 35 round Ruger P-85 Magazine. It was just a cheap aftermarket mag. Then we took it home and made mag catch hole that matched exactly to the original XD-9 mag. The mag functions great in both guns and holds 35 rounds. It has never malfunctioned. Mostly just for fun, but it looks really cool sticking way out the bottom when you have a tac light on your XD. The ultimate home defense weapon ;)

12 Volt: That is cool I'll look into it if I do go with the XD9.

Mr. Apathy: Of course the HS2000 did not come with a lifetime warranty.

Anyone know if there are extended mags for the XD40?

I've looked at the xd9/hs2000 forums and googled for them but came up blank.

no they didnt come with lifetime warranty but SA will fix them up as if they did.

be carefull using beretta magazines you may break something its happened before. forget which extractor, ejector.

extended magazines? like 30 round hicap? best bet would be beretta,S&W or gamble on ruger. first mention of ruger mag working was this thread.

using non XD magazine the slide might not hold open either.

Used to hang around at the Sig Forum, and the guys were talking about using p226 10-round .357/.40 mags as 13 round 9mm hi-caps. Perfectly legal, as you have not altered the mag. Kind of a well kept secret, I guess.
