In the last few days I have tried almost every gun there is and the XD9 fit my hand the best overall. My question is this, can the barrel on the XD9 be changed out to the match barrel that the XDM has or is there an aftermarket barrel that can be put on the XD9 for better accuracy?

There are aftermarket barrels that you can put in the xd. However, I will say that I doubt there are many people that can hold a tighter group than the XD will shot. Like many guns, the limitations is the human behind it. I have an xd service model with 21,000rds through it. The barrel was changed at 18,000rds by SA but honestly there was no need as it was still shooting as good as the day that I got it and still capable of better accuracy than I could hold it.

The xd is a good choice. They are very reliable, and accurate. With some time the trigger will smooth out very nicely.

How much handgun experience do you have? Depending on where you're at you might not (probably won't) notice the difference between one barrel and the other.

If you really wanted to I don't think the XDM barrels will fit, but you could get a barrel from somewhere like Bar-sto and have it fit by a gunsmith, though like I said you probably don't need it.

I have an XD-40 that I've had since 2007. I haven't put as many rounds through it as Possum (I think mine is around the 3000 round mark). but it is an accurate pistol. Nothing wrong with the original XD pistols. If it is what you want I would just get it & not worry about upgrading it. As has been posted the majority of handguns are more accurate than the person pulling the trigger.

My XD9 Tactical (5" barrel) is no less accurate than my XDM Match (5.25" barrel) , and keep in mind anyone can call anything match grade, it's not like their is any standard to meet.

I agree to an extent but I have to say though that the XDM's barrel probably lends itself to the gun's accuracy. The barrel is definitely high quality and after 7k rounds, mine still looks brand new.

There's 3 things that will make your XD more accurate:

1. Better sights if you can't adjust yourself to the factory sights.
2. Finding ammo that it likes. The 3 XD's (2 .45's, one 4", one 5", and a 4" .40) that I've put the most ammo through all like Federal's American Eagle ammo and brass cased Blazer. Even better, roll your own. While I had good results with American Eagle, those three XD's sure like my reloads better.
3. More practice with it.

Short of doing those things I don't think you'll make an XD anymore accurate. No, I've never used an aftermarket barrel in an XD nor aftermarket sights. The sights on mine have all been adequate, FOR ME. And maybe a barrel might help, but if I wanted a gun for Bullseye competition it'd be a hammer fired single action. Good ammo and practice are the best things to spend money on to improve practical accuracy with an XD. Anything else is just for fun or minor improvements, but it's your money you're spending.

I own 5 different xd variations. By far the xdm match is my most accurate gun. But who is to say that is put directly linked to the barrel length. The xdm is my longest barrel. I do agree that the stock xd's are very accurate out of the box. I wouldn't change any of the barrels.

Based my experience with my XDSCs (40 & 9), I think the match grade barrel is pretty much a marketing gimmick.

Apparently I'm not alone - quite a while ago, someone posted a thread asking about your most pleasant surprises AFA guns, shooting, etc.
Quite a few folks reported finding how accurate their XDSCs were as their pleasant surprise discovered in shooting.

I like the old(er), standard XD series - not much of a fan of the M series.
