Hey I just wanted to share this. A coworker recently bought a 45 cal XDs. He told me it came with a 5 round and a 6 round magazine. I was curious, so I looked. Sure enough, the XDs 45 is now listed as coming with a 6 round magazine.

The 7 rounders are nice, but they actually extend the grip a bit more than I care for. So the 6 rounder should be just about perfect. I know a few folks on THR have expressed the same, so I thought I'd give a heads up.

It doesn't look like they are available for sale yet, but I doubt it will be much longer before they are available.

Thanks for the update, can't wait until they are available for sale. I have the 3.3 XDs in 45 and I always found that the 7 round mags were a waste except for at the range.

They extend the grip a little too far for my liking and at that point I'd rather sacrifice a little more width and carry a full size single or even double stack handgun.

Can't wait to get my hands on one and see how much further the grip is extended by.

Yep, that's how a number of us feel. I thought about adding the Pierce floor plate to my 5 round mags, but if I'm going to add length to the grip, I want it to hold more rounds. The 7 round mags are just a bit too long though.

So for me, the 5 round mags for summer carry under tighter fitting clothes, the 6 rounder under spring, fall and winter clothes, will be perfect, and if I decide to carry a reload, the 7 round mag will go in a pocket.

I think they've been available, just very hard to find. I haven't seen one yet, just heard about them on the XD forums. Right now I'd use a 5rd mag (with Pearce ext.) with a 7rd backup and I don't know if that will change if I ever get a 6rd mag to play with.

Kodiak im w/ya on your way to carry post! Im going to work up a light hdy. 185g. 45 HAP round as I have 900 left to reload for my XDS 3.3 soon. that lil. booger can get snappy!

Check the website for Impact Guns. They show an extended floor plate to add a sixth round to the 5 rounders. A little bit ugly but if you want t more without going to the 7 rounders it might be an option. $10 and change.

That thing looks like hell to me, and just looks like it adds additional corners to rub on your hand. I'm talking about factory mags with a grip sleeve that FITS the gun.

I've found that my XDs really likes 230 grain ammo and hits at POA. The 185s I've tried all hit lower than I cared for. I carry Hornady 230 gr +p TAP ammo in mine. Too bad the TAP line went away. I thought it was a good deal given the product.

Ya I got the HAP's when a friend that has a lgs. got a wrong order in that moment and I could not resist for the price or he was going to ship them back. (Almost his cost). Going to try the 230g RMR's and focus on them as I would think it might be better to load a heavier rnd. w/powder choice for recoil?

Recoil wise I definately think the 230s kick harder. 185 grains is plenty of bullet IMO, but my gun just likes the heavier rounds when it comes to hitting at point of aim. It's also my understanding that you often get better velocities from short barreled guns when you shoot heavier bullets.

That's why I usually carry 158 gr loads in my 3" .357

Recoil can be dependent on bullet weight and how hot the ammo is loaded.
Average for 5 shots from my Glock 30SF:
Federal Hydra-Shok 230 gr. @ 811 fps / 336# KE / PF 187
Winchester Ranger T 230 gr. @ 903 fps /417# KE / PF 208
Federal Hydra-Shok 185 +P @ 1,005 fps / 415# KE / PF 186
Remington Golden Saber 185 +P @ 1,008 fps / 418# KE / PF 186

The two 185 gr. +P loads and the 230 Hydra-Shok all produce about the same calculated recoil (PF).
230 Ranger T produces about 10% more recoil than the other three.

That impact piece is a nice in between extension. If you have not put a falcon grip tape on your XDS give it a go. With the grip alone its manageable, with the pinky rest its better. I agree the 7 rounder just makes it too big.

CDW Thanks Im with ya! Might need to map out some more data as you did? :)

The only other one I've got is a standard 185 load
Remington 185 JHP @ 918 fps / 346# KE / PF 170

If light recoil is a priority, that load produced about 10% less recoil than the 185 +P and softer kicking 230 JHP, about 20% less than the hard kicking 230 gr.

Thanks for Heads-Up, 460K ... first I have read about the OEM 6-rounders.

I heavily modified some of the Pearce extensions so that they are as small as possible while still being comfortable for me (size Large gloves, long thin fingers).

Wouldn't it be nice if SA would let us swap 7-rounders for 6-rounders. ;)

It would be nice but I intend to keep my 7 rounders. They are fun on the range and make for a good reload to keep in your pocket, though I hardly ever carry a reload at all.
