I got my XDS back yesterday along with a new 7 rd. mag. I tried feeding from the mags. (all 3) gold dots and golden sabers. Half the time the h/p's would not feed.

Before sending it in for the recall I only shot ball ammo, so I don't know if this is a common problem or not, but in my experience a gun that won't feed the first round from a mag. will not be reliable.

Is this a common problem or does it need the attention of a gunsmith?

I have read of this problem coming up on the XD forums. I'd try breaking it in by shooting it a lot or leaving it loaded for a few days or both. You might want to check out the XD forum for more.

I have a post-recall XDs and routinely shoot Gold Dots. Sometimes when loading the first round out of the magazine, it will not feed - the round goes nose-up into the top of the chamber mouth.... and it's generally my fault that it occurs.

Insert your loaded magazine into the pistol with the slide in battery. Then... don't be gentle... pull the slide back quickly and let it fly forward. It should chamber a Gold Dot - mine will.

In actual operation, I've never had a failure with Gold Dots.

It should load just fine. If you continue to have problems, send it back to Springfield.

I bought a XDs .45acp a couple of weeks ago and have put 100+ rounds through it some HP's and so far its been great, all the mag's work fine even the 7rd one.

Ive had all kinds of feed problems with my XDs. They've found that all 3 of my 7 round mags were defective and new ones are on their way. I couldn't feed any shape of bullet from them. With the 5 round mags my gun was flawless with hardball and swc shaped bullets, but couldn't feed a hollow point to save its life. My pistol is still at Springfield. Hopefully they'll be finished with it next week.

After 500+ rounds fired, 2 trips back to Springfield after the recall and trying various fixes to get mine to run reliably I gave up. Traded for a Glock 36 and I'm much happier.

The XDs I have has been flawless with over 700 rounds mostly Speer GD, Rem GS, and a bunch of my own 200gr swc the gun will function with anything I have loaded in it. I went through a lot of posts on the XD fourm and
find almost all of the FTF issues are shooter or maintance related. I am so impressed I am buying a "Black" one to go with my Bi Tone.
Not to say there ain`t a bad one out there, but the Xds seems to be one of the most reliable "small" guns on the market.

I am dropping the slide release. It's does not jam every time, but it's about 50% with all 3 mags. I'm going to take it apart for routine cleaning, but for now it is not proven.

Many of the SA 7rd mags do this and some people are sending them in and getting them replaced. They don't seem to line the first round up properly to feed.
