The weather changed for the warmer and as a result, I pulled out my warm weather carry gun. An XDs 45 has filled that role well for the last 5 or 6 years.

Since it's been cased for a way too many months I decided I better shoot it and practice a bit. 70 or so rounds in the base of the trigger safety blade sheared off and dropped out of the trigger. The spring that operates the safety also fell out and passed through a dimensional rift that leads to who knows where, never to be seen again.

The gun still functions but obviously I can't trust it wil broken bits.

First it was the recall and now this. I know everything breaks eventually but I'm just kind of irritated. It doesn't even have 1000 rounds through it. Makes me wonder about the Sig P365.

Personally I wouldn't worry about it. Similar thing happened to my LC9S a while back. The roll pin that holds the blade safety in either broke or worked itself out while shooting. Lost the spring as well.

I kept shooting and carrying it until Ruger sent me the new pin and spring under warranty. It was even a bit longer after I received those before I finally got around to reinstalling the blade and new parts.

To each their own but that's not something that would make me lose faith in a gun.

Seems a low round count for a break like that, but I bet SA will make it right.

I, personally, would have issues trusting it after that but I accept that it would likely be an unreasonable paranoia.

The gun will still function, but I would strongly advise against shooting it - XDs have a Glock type trigger mechanism, so the trigger blade is an essential part of the drop safety. In other words, it is more likely to discharge if dropped.

Well, you can relax for now - XD pistols are made in Croatia by HS Produkt company and SA is only the distributor.

Wow. I’ve always suspected that SA is sub run-of-the-mill junk with slick advertising. A modern, mass-produced pistol that falls apart when you shoot it? Jeez, even my Hi-Points don’t do that.

Good thing there are numerous other options available to you.
Please keep in mind this is one example. It's not like there are dozens of threads about what junk their guns are. Given enough use, every mechanism will have a failure at some point. I was just unlucky.

I'm just a little miffed. I wasn't even going to post but a firearms company's way of dealing with issues like this is part of their track record.

Haven't had a chance to contact them. I'll update when I do. SA has a good rep and I'm guessing it won't be a problem. I just don't relish being without my small carry gun at the moment. I could go buy a 9mm version as a backup, I just don't want to spend the money right now. I have other carry guns to fall back on, they are just bigger than I care for when wearing lighter clothing.

Living in Illinois, I have an anti-SA bias based on what they did to us here. In spite of that bias, I have to tip my hat to their customer service department. My experiences with them have been outstanding, and if you send it in they'll take care of you.

(I also live in Illinois and feel that SA is on the side of their customers and all gun owners. We need to move past the blow up over the lobbyist)
I also know a guy that worked for SA in R&D i.e. Product Testing. He put many thousands of rounds through XD pistols with almost no failures. In any case, the company will certainly take good care of you. Their customer service is excellent.

I have an old XD-40 that cracked the locking block after about 4000-5000 rounds. Sent it back to SA and the fixed in in a week door to door. That XD-40 is approaching 40,000 rds now. Still going strong.

The Croatians make a pretty good gun. They've been killing each other for a very long time. Shoot Springfield an email, with a picture of your problem. They'll likely send you the parts. If they're nice, they'll include a punch set and a hockey puck for your troubles.

Shipped her back home on Friday May 18 on SA's dime. We'll see what the turnaround time is.

The gun will still function, but I would strongly advise against shooting it - XDs have a Glock type trigger mechanism, so the trigger blade is an essential part of the drop safety. In other words, it is more likely to discharge if dropped.

Remember, XD pistols also have a grip safety so even if the dingus is broke, you have to depress the grip safety to get it to shoot.

The gun still shoots. I tried it. If you do not depress the grip safety the gun will not fire. I tried that too.

Either way, it arrived at the factory today for repair. I would think this would be a pretty quick fix.

I was considering a Sig 938 as a backup summer carry gun, but now I'm thinking about getting an XDs-9. 3 free mags from SA is going on too. Dang it.

Glad they fixed it quickly, but the trigger safety pieces breaking with 1k+/- through it isn't good news. Hopefully you just had one part with a weakness and it's not a regular occurrence across the Xd model spectrum.

Good luck, and stay safe!

Well the gun functioned fine, but I shot like crap. I was pulling it out to practice after 7 months of dormancy when it broke. So this was like the first outing with it in a long time. I need to get out and shoot it again soon. I was hitting low so I'm guessing I was anticipating recoil a bit, and probably had a little too much of a death grip. I don't think it cared for the ammo I was shooting either.
