XS has a new express sight out. Anyone seen or used it?

Per the XS websight - "Used by Dennis Ming, a.k.a. "China Camp", 5 time 'End of Trail' world champion. Designed to work on the Marlin, Winchester and Legacy rifles. Cowboy Express Sights let you get the drop on steel fast."

I'm not 100% positive, but I think that anything but black sights are illegal for SASS. Maybe he uses them when he's not competing?

XS sights for Cowboy Costume Show matches? I dunno.

I got my fill of their period snobbery when I showed up to try it wearing jeans, a western shirt, Resistol hat and Tony Lama's and got sneered at. Seems that I wasn't "authentic" enough.

Maybe if you drop a grand or so on your costume, they'll overlook a little thing like anachronistic sights and let you ride their hobby horse. ;)

I'm not interested in Cowboy shooting but rather the XS sights. I like the XS peeps but this one caught my eye.

Mainmech48- perhaps you ought to try a different club. Our club has several shooters dressed as you describe. There are members who go all out, but it is about the shooting and camaraderie here- not about the costume. Give it another try with a different bunch. Come on down here to Texas and shoot with the Alamo Area Moderators. Check out www.alamoareamoderators.com or www.sassnet.com to find a club near you.

Sorry for any confusion. Since you mentioned Dennis Ming, the context implied 'cowboy' to me. Also apologize for the mini-rant. It still rankles me, perhaps more than it should. Just because I found a bunch of poseurs at what I'd expected to be, at least nominally, a shooting match doesn't justify sweeping generalization.

Anyway, the "express" type of open sight with a shallow "Vee" rear and largish bead front should work very well on your carbine. After all, the concept proved itself admirably on the big double rifles for fast accurate placement at close-to-moderate ranges on some of the nastiest stuff our planet has raised. It should be just as efficient for fast shots at deer, hogs, black bear, or the like here. In an SD/HD role, I don't think even the vaunted 'ghost ring' is faster to pick up. I use them on a couple of my regular CCW handguns and like them a lot.

Greyrock: While traveling to Texas isn't economically feasible right now, I'm much obliged for the kind invitation. The idea of being able to compete with my C&B replicas in something a little more 'fun' than paper bullseyes still has a lot of appeal to the Walter Mitty in me. Just not to the extent where I'm willing to go to extremes in order to indulge it. FWIW, I'll do some looking around in the area to see if I can't find a place where the 'gamesmen' and the Fashion Nazis don't ruin the contest.
