PORTLAND - A man who was holding a knife to a woman's throat was shot and killed by Portland police.
The confrontation happened at the Greyhound Bus Depot Saturday night.

Medical Examiners found that 22-year-old Jose Angel Padilla died from a gunshot wound to the head.

When police shouted to the Padilla, he reportedly raised the knife, cursed at them, and began bringing the knife toward 21-year-old Anaisa Valdez Arroyo's neck, police said.

That's when one of the officers fired one round which struck and killed the man. The woman involved sustained a cut on her throat.

Investigators believe the pair who are from Yakima Washington were involved and reportedly had a history of domestic violence. They were traveling through Portland to Yakima at the time of the incident.

The Multnomah County District Attorney's Office is overseeing an investigation of the incident.

The name of the officer is being withheld and will be on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

This is not the same Jose Padilla that, 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals said the President does not have the power to detain Padilla as an enemy combatant, and ordered that he be released or transferred to the civilian justice system in 30 days. Is it?

That pretty well put an end to anymore "history of domestic violence". That's some smooth shooting by the officer.

I can't believe it. Someone dares to take a head shot isntead of putting down his weapon?

'Spose Hollywood will take notice? Nawwww

Wow

Wow, that is amazing, only one shot?? From the Portland Police??? This is portland oregon, not portland maine right? These guys are usually known for highest round count for lowest hits, I think their average is about 19 rounds fired for every hit, glad there is at least ONE there that can shoot. I am amazed as this hasn't even been in the news here and they are very dilligent in uncovering police "abuses" of the mexican population in Portland. Well, good shoot by them finally it sounds like.

I suspect it would be bigger news if it was. Besides, that Jose Padilla is still in jail last I heard. It's just that Bush & Ashcroft had it explained to them that (as much as they'd like to) they couldn't get away with just ignoring the Constitution. In this case at least.

Back on topic, great work Officer.
