Yaqui slide holsters anyone?

I have several from Galco...they work very well with my 1911's, SiG's, and Smith 10XX and 45XX 3rd Generation pieces.
My Makarov's also work well with the 1911 shaped slide...

My preferred carry holster is a Yaqui slide. It is the most comfortable holster I use. Simple, with the weight of the gun on the belt, not pushing into your waist as is common with many other OWB holsters. Here's why:

I have several in different sizes to fit pistols from the Makarov to a CZ97B. I prefer no retention strap. Depending on your modus operandi you might have need for such a strap.
Here's a firm that makes first rate holster, IMO, as good as Don Hume or Galco, for less money.

Slide holsters are IMO the most comfortable and are also quick for the draw. A nice variant is one that can also be worn IWB.
I've been using a Yaqui Slide by Milt Sparks, for many years, with my Colt's Lightweight Commander, and Colt's Govt Model. Works fine.
The only caveat is that if one is up and down quite often at work, etc., sitting in a chair with arms, it is possible for the arm of the chair to dislodge the pistol if one isn't careful.
I have a picture of me standing next to Jeff Cooper, at Gunsite, in 1981. Cooper's Colt's Govt. Model can easily be seen residing in his Yaqui Slide, made by Milt Sparks. He had it on the entire week I was there.
Answering the triva question, Jeff Cooper and Milt Sparks designed the Yaqui Slide for Cooper's use.

I have had Don Hume "First Agent" holsters (a short belt slide, not exactly like the "Yaqui Slide," though) in the past. To answer your specific question, they do hold the gun well enough, as well as tuck the butt in. Still, if my cover garment were to ride up, I would rather not expose the bottom of the slide and/or barrel.
One thing a short belt slide will do is allow guns of the same type/frame size but of different barrel lengths to be used in the same holster. OTOH, if you can afford multiple guns of this type, you can afford holsters made for each of them.

As far as the origin of Yaqui, we know he received a nice prototype holster while visiting El Salvador and proceeded with M. Sparks on the final design....I'm sure he had seen enough of tribal Indians using their belt or sash to hold a weapon of sorts. However, I believe the Yaqui, indigenous to his home turf in AZ was more for marketing than any historical significance...

I personally love my Don Hume JIT Slide holsters. I have them for all of my carry guns. They are comfortable, quick to draw and IMHO cause less leather wear. The thing you have to keep in mind is that when I wear blue jeans, I find that even though I carry in the 3 o'clock spot, the muzzle seems to slightly rub on the rivet in the jeans and has left a mark or two on my guns.
Mine have been very durable and they are easy to get your hands on. Sure, its not a $150.00 custom leather holster, but it does a great job for me. Since I dont open carry, I dont really care if people see my custom leather anyway.
