so I went to my LGS and besides staring at the half dozen consignment rifles on the wall... after complaining about the ammo situation... they said their distributor said... it'll be only 60-90 more days until ammo supplies will be back to somewhat normal... :) they are sick of seeing empty ammo bins as well....
 
I've heard the same thing from two different gun stores, both were the shop owners, and both from the SHOT show. They said that ammo supplies should be back to about normal by late March, early April. At one store, he said that some of the less popular calibers are going to be taking a back seat to 223/5.56, 9x19, and 308 (and one or two others) for quite a while.

if a 1000 ct case of 223 was $330 tomorrow, how many would you buy? yeah, that's going to be an overwhelming demand, which will just drive the prices back up, or rather, keep them from coming back down to where they were.
 
I agree with Taliv on this one. Also, it seems like the days of cheap ammo ended back in 2006 or so. From then on it has been one incremental price increase after another, with prices never really falling back to where they were before any given panic we might experience.
 
Remember those threads where someone heard a gun shop employee claim something unusuall? I remember a few where a dealer told someone here that ammo prices would rise across the board on X date, and members here rightfully called BS on it. But here we have a dealer making an unusual claim that sounds like good news and there is a line forming to lap it up. :rolleyes:
 
My concern is that retailers won't be selling 1K rds of 5.56 anytime soon at pre-panic prices- even if demand leveled off simply because they've seen what people are willing to pay.
For me personally, I just wish for another opportunity to buy some of that virgin LC 5.56 brass again.
 
not sure what you're talking about... wideners has 1200 ct cases of IMI M193 and M855 in stock right now at around 50 cents / rnd.

that's still at least a 60% increase from where i bought last year, but at least it's not a 300% increase like auctions are now
 
If the Gov't knows it can't take your guns or ammo, maybe if they buy a bunch of ammo, dry up the available supply and drive up prices, then most people will just end up with expensive metal rocks and sticks. Just sayin'...
 
Maybe I'm off my rocker but the smart buy right now seems to be the Eastern Bloc's 7.62 types of ammo. A fuzzy bunny keeps telling me that the cheaper surplus may not find its way here much longer.
 
Well he didn't say tomorrow, he said it would take 2-3 months for things to get back to "somewhat" normal.

huh, yeah i couldn't get there last night either. not surprising they sold out though

How is Wideners to deal with? I have read some bad
reports on their Cuatomer Service.
 
customer service becomes sort of discontinuous at a time like this, like talking about getting a car wash during katrina. many vendors have taken people off the phones and no longer do retail walk ins, and are 100% focused on getting stuff out, but their processes may not have been designed with this level of crazy in mind. so i tend to cut them some slack.

pre-crazy, wideners was ok. i've maybe done a dozen orders with them in 8 years, including at least 20k bullets. no real issues with service, though they have done some things i found irritating. i'd buy from them more often if i could go pick it up, but since i'm in same state i pay an extra 10% sales tax AND shipping on typically heavy items, it usually means other places are more competitive.
 
I certainly hope so I was just at the local chain sporting goods store, the shelves were looking very bare. The ONLY handgun ammo they had were a couple of boxes of 32 auto, selection in rifle ammo was a little better, but was still limited to larger game stuff 30-06, 300 WSM, 7MM, 270, etc and only a couple of boxes of each, shotgun shells were still available, but only in target loads, no buck shot or slugs. The gun selection was almost as bad, normally they have 250-300 long guns on display, and often sell out of the stock in the back, not the display model. Selection was down to about 25-30 long guns total, this included a few single shot shotguns (no pump or semi-autos), and a mix of lever and bolt action rifles. Their handgun case which usually contains a selection of about a dozen guns (they sell mostly hunting guns), had 1 choice , a fairly long barreled Judge in stainless.
 
I watched some gun store workers wheel in 7 or 8 pallets of Lawman 9 mm. just today. I have a pic iffen anybody thinks ima fibbin. lol
