BTW, Iver Johnson didn't build them, They were imported . One source states that the parts were made in Spain and imported for assembly in the US. They are, in all but name, a Star-Echeverria Starfire.

Spanish guns generally have a date code on them. For example I think N is 1943.

Model D

I also have one similar to the I. J. My gun is marked FI Model D (Firearms International, Washington D.C. not to be confused with FIE) My serial numbers begin with CPA which stood for Colt Pony Automatic, as posted on a web page dedicated to these guns. It is believed that parts for the gun were produced before the agreement between Colt and Star was broken. I believe but, I am not certain the guns with CPA serial numbers were assembled from those parts before as I understand it I. J. purchased the right to the gun. I purchased my gun used in 1982 or 1983 from an individual.
I also am interested in the history of this model and a guess as to its value.
This link has some information. http://www.star-firearms.com/firearms/guns/d/index.shtml
