Morning hunt, saw some great White-tail. I used a doe bleat to get this eight point close enough for a good pic. A bigger one came in pretty early and it was too dark and far for a picture. It's the second time I've seen him, so I'll get a pic soon. Hopefully, these guys live another couple of years.

Then, after the hunt, we made sausage. Smoked, and dry ring.

While that was smoking, I went for a hunt that evening and in walks this fella. He was taking a short-cut through the field and I could resist. He's not the biggest I've taken, but it's the best meat you can get and he must have weighed 225 on the hoof. We're trading the cape straight up for a European mount. Oh, and I know I've seen "this is a gun forum" before, so pictured is a gun I've become addicted to. It's a Rem 700 BDL in 7mm STW. I love the gun, I just happened to pick a caliber that can be a little obscure. Story of my life with guns.

Enjoy, I know I did..

Nice axis buck! My Saturday wasn't as lucrative, but I had fun. Passed up a button buck and a doe. Would have taken the doe, but it was bedded down in a steep hollow, and I wasn't up to getting it out. I've got plenty of time though. Congratulations on the buck.

You know, USMC, it sounds funny, but you wouldn't believe the people that really think that around here. Sausage is done, wish I could share.

Thanks, Springmom. Those were some beautiful White-tail you guys got. I enjoyed the story very much. It reminded me of my guiding days when I was a little younger.

I got one almost that big several years ago. He only made it about 20 yards after he got hit. F-150 to the shoulder! One of the most expensive deer I ever had:(

Grayrock, you hit the nail on the head!

My dad told has a saying that he sticks to. Anytime someone says they didn't see anything, he is sure to let them know that it's called Deer Hunting instead of Deer Killin'.

Then again, both of his bucks this year have been killed in complete serendipity. He drove up on both of them, both nice 8 points. I envy him.

Oh, they are free-ranging here in the hill country. Lot of game ranches with bad fence and they breed like rabbits (all year, by the way). We've seen as many as 40 - 50 in our 30 acre field. I love to eat them. They get me all excited and it helps me manage our White-tail better by not shooting the bucks. Oh, man Muzzy. I love the fishing, too. Can't wait until the reds start running in Corpus Christi. My wife beats me every year with her fish. Last year she caught a 31 inch red, dwarfing all of mine (but I love that she's happy fishing with me). Now I just need to get her hunting with my .243. Very soon, I'm working on that one.
