But not the one you think.:)

I was in a carry class yesterday and the instructor stated that you should never store ammo in your safe (in other words all guns need to be unloaded in your safe), in addition to no ammo inside the safe.

His reasoning behind this is in case of a fire, if the ammo gets hot enough to "pop" it will break the fire seal of your safe. :what:

Now my question is this. How hot does it have to get before ammo pops? my safe is rated at 1200 for 30 or 45 min (not sure which). I live in a modular home and think that my stuff in the safe would be toast long before the ammo has a chance to pop. (if the safe wasn't sitting on the ground long before that happened).

Any ideas, discussions, arguements?:banghead:

Most gun safes won't protect against fire as much as people think they will.

Large amounts of ammo should not be stored inside of a safe, and your instructor was on the right track. If you had a lot of ammo in a tightly sealed container that was not designed to burst under pressure, then you're dealing with a potential explosion hazard. In reality, you're talking about ammo cans full of ammo, not a few boxes.

If you stockpile ammo, then your best bet is to use ammo cans stacked together, as that is what ammo cans were designed for.
