Yes, boars can be dangerous animals.

that guy that slipped was lucky he didnt get shot i would be whoppin that guy when i got back up the hill if i where him!!

Correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like the guy who rolled down the hill fired the shot that stopped the boar. Good video.

Agreed that the guy on the ground likely had the best view of the critter. ;) :what:

But what someone on another forum pointed out is that the camera/microphone was likely at least 200 to 300 yards away. And with sound traveling at around 1,000 fps, what we are hearing is possibly a full second behind what we are seeing ...

Good lord. They not only crossed each other's lines of fire, they appear to have been SHOOTING AT EACH OTHER! The fellow with the handgun continues shooting even as the boar crosses the path of the falling man, and the falling man whips out his rifle and unless I'm looking at it wrong, he's shooting directly back towards the other two. Why are they going up in a three stooges configuration? What happened to the concept of one shooter at a time? Scary.

Yikes......I don't hunt, but it would seem to me that the key to avoiding a situation like that is thinking about your approach/line of fire before you come up on the animal.

Glad no one was hurt.

Yeah sure, but otherwise the shoot was a cherry, right?

Yea, as a hunter ed. instructor, I've watched the stats on hunting accidents go back up significantly in the past 10 years with incidents such as this. Particularly since the hogs have bred and spread to places they did not used to be and become known as "Texas' dangerous game animal".

From the pistolero telling the guy (with lever gun?) who fell to "Get your gun ready", I'm guessing the pistolero may have been the "guide". Assuming at least a 1/2 second delay in the sound, it appears that the pistolero started perforating the pig right after the guy who fell had crossed directly in front of him.

In pausing the thing several times, it looks to me like the tall guy in Kahakis had some terrible foot positioning during the whole encounter and may have actually been the source of that rifle blast - somewhat after the hog had already bit the dirt.

Edited to add: In reviewing it yet one more time, it looks like whether spent cartridge was in chamber or not, the guy in khakis definitely muzzle swept the pistolero's upper body there at the end.

I think all of y'all have lost your minds about this being some sort of near fatal accident for the hunters. No, it is not that at all but a well executed suckering in of the boar who is then caught in a precisely timed pincher movement on the part of the hunters.

First note the faux retreat by the hunters and appearance of being intimidated. They have bunched together to give the impression of being scared, inexperienced, and defensively feeble. They act like they are initially too scared to even shoot. This emboldens the boar who presses the charge at the clustered men.

Notice that as the boar approaches, the closest two hunters split at the last moment so as to let the boar pass between them along the trail, leaving the 3rd hunter in khaki as the stop gap part of the triad should the boar actually make it through the gauntlet of the pinch from the first two hunters. This type of precision teamwork and bravery in the face of a determined enemy shows that this is obviously a highly coordinated and honed hunting team.

Notice the hunter who leaves the trail for the lower position. He knows that his buddy only has a pistol, calculates the effects of gravity and angle, and realizes that taking the low position is best suited for himself with a more powerful long gun.

Also notice how quickly the lower hunter is able to go prone in a classic downhill sliding position to take a very quick shot. He is obviously a very skilled hunter with combat experience. It is cool how he uses the boar to shield himself from the second hunter's pistol shots. He does this knowing that there is little chance of overpenetration from the pistol on the boar and knowing the pistolero is a supreme marksman, especially at that range.

The hunter in khaki never yields the trail, in spite of Greybeard's correct notation of his poor footing. Here, a lessor hunter would have been on his butt. He is obviously the least experienced of the trio and why he was held in reserve, but yet still performed in a positive manner.

And finally, notice the pursuit of the lower hunter down the slope, matching the boar stride for stride and tumble for tumble until he is confident that the beast is no longer a threat.

God I live the smell of bacon in the morning!

"God I live the smell of bacon in the morning!"

Not on that one. :D

What I would like to know is how long it took 'em to pack that critter off the side of that hill. Or if they even bothered.
