Yikes! What? You're a Police Officer? But how? Really? Oh, man...

To get a CCW in Colorado you have to have more training then that ... about 12 hours in the classroom. Then about 12 hours at the range.
Uh. NRA Basic Pistol satisfies the Colorado CCW requirements, and it takes 10 or 12 hours total. That is, the classroom and range, added up, sums to an amount less than or equal to 12 hours.
(Of course, what satisfies the legal requirements doesn't necessarily satisfy moral requirements, etc, etc, etc, ad nasum)
WOW! This is interesting. Does this ruling apply nationwide? How would I find out if FLORIDA is one of those states?
Also good for this is Dial 911 and Die.
It goes, state by state, discussing legal cases which demonstrate that almost nowhere in the US do the police have a legal obligation to protect you.
That doesn't mean police departments have total legal immunity. (Though it does seem to go that far in some jurisdictions.) Rather, it is more that they can't be sued for not doing things. (not showing up when you call 911, or not arresting someone who means to kill you), while they can still be sued for things that they actually do (running over you, shooting you, illegally detaining you).

Personally, I wasn't too surprised when I found out.
Some people have the most amazing reactions, though.

Well, I guess I am still somewhat stuck to the "COPS & ROBBERS" mentality, yah know? I honestly didnt know that it has changed to "VICTIM & ROBBERS" now. Oh well, at least I'm ready.
