Hard to beat the savage axis xp or xp II combo rifles with standard lite weight or heavy bbl's.

Bought a axis xp II several years ago chambered in 223rem with a heavy bbl to test my home swaged jacketed bullets made out of 22lr cases. That rifle easily shot sub MOA 5-shot groups @ 100yds with those home swaged bullets and mixed brass.

Bought a axis xp II with a standard lite weight bbl chambered in 308w at the same time. It shot MOA with several different kinds of factory ammo.

At the time savage was having a sale with a $50 mail in rebate and fin feather fur was dropping another $50 of the price. They were selling them for $199.99 + tax out the door. At todays prices there still a good deal & if you don't like the scope that comes with them, simply sell it and put on what you want.https://www.sportsmans.com/shooting...bolt-action-rifle-65-creedmoor-22in/p/1638402

We live in a time where all the mfg's are putting out excellent rifles for little $$$.

A little over your $500 budget but just purchased this used one at the LGS this afternoon. Vanguard SS Bell & Carlson pillar bedded stock, black spider web gray in 270 Win for $550. This dates to the 2005-2010 era when Weatherby first started marketing Sub MOA rifles in the Vanguard line. I'd much rather have this used Vanguard than any of the new rifles marketed today in the $500 range.

I would like to find an Ruger American Lefty in any of the available cartridges. 6.5 or 308.

A Henry single shot break action maybe fun to try. 350 or 450
A Handi rifle would fit the bill also.

Can it be done with $500 only?
The build I want to do? Yeah, a Bear Creek Arsenal complete upper for just under $300 and a complete lower (from BCA or Palmetto) for around $150. The mags are for 350 Legend only, not interchangeable with standard AR mags so there's that cost also.
