There is much evidence for the use of buckshot for home defense..
Not on actual killings by home owners but by those who test the reliability of penetration in ballistic gel. The "brass fetcher" and "box of truth" as well as many others. 6-9 shot birdshot is not too good-about 5-6" at room distances 10-20ft. Number 2 shot is not bad with a penetration of about 7-9" at those distances. A large human male will have a chest diameter of about 12-13" and #4 buckshot at room distances will give adequate penetration. One can not predict what scenario they will encounter ,hence it would be prudent to use ammo that will do the job at 20-25 yards if needed. That is where 00 buckshot is most effective, and that is why it is so lethal for hunting deer etc in the brush and oak hammock on my farm especially with a long barrel and a full choke- which brings the effectiveness of 00 buckshot out to 35- 40 yards. 00 buckshot has more carrying power because of its mass of 54gr per pellet. That is why we use it in the military and law enforcement too. My 2 cents--Snoop
