I had a blued, 4-inch Model 66 a long time ago. It was one of those that had the right hand recoil shield as part of the sideplate. Once I Dremeled the grooves out of the trigger, it was terrific.

Then I had a M85SSUL that I foolishly traded in a fit of "I gotta have a 9." It was a great gun.

I've replaced it (and the tiny 9mm I got in trade for it) with another M85SSUL. No problems with it, either.

I'm looking for a stainless M85 or an UL snubbie .32 H&R Mag for my sister. However, I've found a three-inch Ruger SP101 in .32 H&R Mag for about the same price. It just depends on what she likes.

I had a 4" 66 with a nickel finish. It was beautiful, and extremely accurate. Especially with really cheap ammo. No complaints there.

Of course, in a moment of weakness and stupidity (mostly stupidity) I sold it to my brother in law. At least I know if went to a good home.

I had a "made by Taurus" Rossi 851 .38special that was actually pretty decent, well worth the $300 I paid new for it. But, it doesn't even come close to the S&W model 10 with 3" barrel that I just bought used for $250.
Taurus quality is decent but still not quite up to S&W standards.

Rossis are owned by taurus, but not made by taurus. They're still made in the Rossi factory. They are decent, serviceable revolvers for a danged good price, but they're not up to a Taurus or Smith for refinement, IMHO, at least not the one's I've owned. I do have a nice little M68 3" and a .22 M511 I hung on to that are accurate and above the Rossi average for fit and finish. Later ones since Taurus bought 'em out seem to be quite a bit improved over the old Interarms imported ones back around 1990. I had a couple of that era that had quite a bit of tooling marks, especially in places like under the hammer spur.

I owned a Tauras 82 3" .38 Special.

Wasn't too bad. Only issue was it shot noticably off to the right. I ended up stripping the revolver down and carefully turning the barrel just a bit tighter to center the front sight. The revolver was fine then, and a beautiful shooter(one you could hit where the sights pointed)

The Model 82 was a standard 6 shot blued fixed sight revolver. Seemed well built and finished. I owned a few other revolvers at the time, and it was not as good(fit and finish, action smoothness) as a S&W I had to compare with. However it was quite comparable to a Ruger Security-Six .357 I have.

It was a good solid revolver. They just didn't quite get the barrel screwed all the way where it needed to be, and consequently, the sights didn't center up.

I remember thinking at the time that the S&W was best, Ruger next, then a close third was the Tauras.

I have had an 8 shot 357 taurus, 5 shot 38, that I would rate as good as any revolver I have ever shot. At the same time I had a 22 DA rev, and a Gaucho in 357 that I had to send back for warrenty repair. All NIB!! So I can see why nearly half the posts either love or hate them. My personal experience with taurus management getting them repaired does not lead me to ever want to buy another.

My 608 4"ss is awsome, After 1000 plus rounds it has never had a single
problem. This gun is very smooth and accurate, I also love the 8 round capacity.

I only have experience with a 1970's vintage .38 that appears to be a copy of the Model 10 M&P. It's a 4 inch, pencil-barreled, blued revolver of about K-frame dimensions. Seems to be of adequate quality, but I think it's a bit below S&W in the fit & finish categories. Fits a K-frame holster and shoots just fine. I bought it in Georgia in about 1973 as I recall.

Does anyone know or have a link to information about older Tauruses (Tauri?) like mine? I'd like to know it's model designation and history.

see my sig line.

here's what I think:

I'm a dirt poor college student and I wouldn't buy a Taurus over anything else (Jimenez et al excluded). The press is sufficiently bad that I'm not interested. It's only my life after all. :uhoh:

Judging by the poll in my sig line a full 20% of the 225 voters wouldn't buy another Taurus under basically any circumstances. Yes, 67% liked theirs well enough, and I'm not arguing that nobody has success with Taurus. I do read horrible things enough not to trust my life on one, and the numbers I got do not dissuade me from that position.

If you're happy with yours, I'm not trying to tell you you're full of it. I don't like them and I don't mind sharing what I've heard with people who ask, despite the almost inevitable flaming that results.

All things being equal, for the money what does a Taurus do that a used Glock, XD, M&P, Ruger, Smith, FNP, etc. not do?

Now now. He has numbers to back him up. Personal experience folds in front of such numbers

I have a first production M44 w/8" barrel - LOVE IT!

First production M443 - LOVE IT!

Both have great stock trigger pulls, excellent accuracy, nice finish, lifetime warranty

Taurus makes fine firearms

I have two Raging Bull's in 454 Casull, and 44 mag. 6 1/2" barrels.Stainless. And, a Taurus Tracker in 44 mag. 2" barrel in blue. I love them all.The bull's are incredibly strong weapon's.can take the punishment of the the Casull pressure all day long. And, really tames the recoil to a manageable level. The Tracker I use when I go fishing, etc. Loaded with shot shells and half jacketed ammo. From my experiences with Taurus I would recommend to a friend to buy Taurus with confidence.

I have a 605 snubby. I love my Taurus. I'm not embarrassed. I want to shout from the roof tops how much I love it. Seriously, it is my primary CC weapon. I carry it in a tuckable IWB holster and you cannot even tell it's there. It's the only Taurus I've owned so I don't know about the rest, but the 605 is A-OK in my book. :)

So far so good. Another few sessions and it would be "very good." Fits my hand well, points well, shoots straight, recoil with FMJ practice ammo is no problem. Very promising.

The .38 special snubby my mom owns works great even with trigger modifications. The .22 lr Taurus revolver she owns gave her issues and had to be sent back to the factory but works now. If you do get a bad gun they seem to stand by it but initial quality is a little bit worrying.

You want a taurus? Buy it new and hope there is nothing wrong with it from the start because the life time warranty service is very very slow. That being said I have two right now that I bought new and haven't had a problem one with them.(A 9 shot .22 and a titanium ultralite .38)
I did buy a used .38 and it spit fire and burnt the cases due to excessive play between the cylinder and forcing cone. They aren't bad guns but you get what you pay for and they won't hold their value like a Smith and Wesson when it comes time to sell.
My 0.02 worth.

paper weight

I have one of them paper weights, mines a 689,,lovely shade of stainless,I sent that back 2 times,,i get a target they shot and sent back each time, one shot is high all the rest are all grouped together, HUmm dauhh,,,so they shoot it,it shoots high so they move the paper higher to look like its shooting right on,,,,lol..i have more money in this gun then i like to admit,I had a new barrel put on it,and a comp cut into it,had it all timed, and new locks added, all the parts polished, new sites put on it,,now i have a well timed very loud gun,,that shoots very well,,,would i buy another one,,oh i dont know,my buddie bought one of them new single action jobs,he didnt get a box of rounds though it,and something broke,he sent it back, with a note, they asked he send it postage paid, so he did, waitied for ever, like i did, so when he got it back,,the hammer and trigger didnt match the rest of the gun finish,it was either polishe or case hard i cant recall, but he said now it miht be one of a kind,,So now he wants to buy one of them 1911,,good luck with that fir sure,,if u i ever figre how to add a pic.i'll add my 689 on here,I think i have over 500 bucks in gunsmith costm from about8 or 10 years ago, anyone want to give me a offer?

I've had 5, and all were fine. When I had my FFL, I sold dozens with zero issues. I still have a 431 (stainless, 44 Spl, 4", fixed sights), smoothed a little, and with Wolff springs, that's my numero uno carry gun. With the right glasses, I can still put 5 in the black without too much trouble. With stiff handloads it is still not too unpleasant to shoot. With Glasers it's a dream.

I bought 3 Revo's at the same time as they where a good value and each had a role. The only one I thought was worth a darn was the 82 Security Guard Model. The instant back up was a total loss, the ammo pushed back out of the cylinder and locked it up tight. The titanium .357 cracked before I hit 500 rds. The 92 AFS fell apart as I put the first magazine through it, front sight flew off, 2 screws came out of the grips. I called for new parts over a yr ago. I have learned my lesson about Taurus.

not worth the money

I have one its a 689, hada lot of gunsmith work done to it,way to much,,like a new short barrel, had it ported, had lock work done, had it tymed, all the inside parts smooth and polished, dif sites,i only did this after i sent it back to the factory 2 times,,it shot high, real high, all my frinds tried it,same thing,no one could get this ti shoot center,A friend had one like in but in blue, same thing for him, he had sent it back, they did nothing,,, just sent targets they say they shot, who knows, the targets i got back had one hole high, and the rest were nice and tight,,, hummm sounds like they shot one round, then moved the target so it looked like it was all ok,,so no i wouldnt buy another,My buddiebought one of them new single shot, had it to the range he didnt get but a handfull of rounds through it,it broke, hes was 45 colt, mine is a 357,he sent his back,, they had it fr 3 months, sent it back, here the triger and hammer, were a diferent finish,,so he has a one of a kind for sure, now he wants to get one of them new 1911,,,i'll wait to see how his works out for him,, u hear they have problems now,, safteys falling off, what is up with that?did any one hear that too?
