I gotta got with the .270 mainly because it's the only round I've killed deer with. I've also hunted with .30-06, .300 Win Mag, and a 7.62x54r Mosin-Nagant, just didn't get a shot at a deer with any of them:eek:

.308 because I liked shooting it over other calibers in my formative years. Still do.

There are many great calibers that are more than adequate for deer.

I've killed more deer with a 30-06 than any other, but voted 25-06. To me it is as good as it gets for deer sized game, up close or far away.

Laphroaig

My favorites are .257 Roberts and 7mm-08, neither of which are on the list...

I went with .30-30, mainly because that's the chambering of my favorite rifle, a Western Field 742 (aka Marlin 336).

The rifle fits me like a glove, and has taken more deer than all my other guns put together.

Marlin used to make a heck of rifle.

Not so much any more. :(

My go-to hunting rifle for years has been a .308, but this year I'll be hunting with a .260 Remington.

If I had t pick one, it'd be my 7mm Mag Model 70. I bought the gun the summer of my senior year, and its collected many fine critters for me since. Its been wholly reliable, its accurate, and it has the reach and punch I need for the open South Dakota prairie. I shoot 160 gr Accubonds and Partitions almost exclusively, and this combination has yet to fail me in any way.

Can't see polls on Tapatalk but I'm assuming neither one that I shoot is there. I've been using 300 Savage since I first started. Past few years have been w/ 357 Magnum. Will be taking a 35 Remington this year because bear is concurrent w/ deer.

270. I'm a surgeon with mine and have more confidence with it than my other rifles. That said my ML shooting sst bullets is impressive.

I imagine when I start reloading it will be my 250 savage. It's just cool and a pleasure to shoot

I quite enjoy my Handi Rifle in .223 rem, ammo is cheap to practice with and I am dead nutz accurate with the thing. With 2 seasons under it's belt it has 5 Hogs and 2 deer under the belt, all with varying ranges from 300 yards to 50 yards. Before this it would have been the 30-30.

WHAT, no .257 Roberts!? I'm APPALLED that you would leave out the best deer caliber ever devised!

I voted .308. :D I mostly just like the gun it's chambered in, but like the cartridge, too. If the gun shop had not had a .308 and HAD a 7-08, I'd be shooting a 7-08. I really care not, just wanted a M7 at the time in a good caliber and it's hard not to name a good deer caliber. Just open your reloading manual to a random centerfire rifle page beyond .22 CFs. It's likely a good deer caliber. There will be the .25-20s and such, just sayin'....:D

" I have alot of older fellas in my family that hunt, and most of them have never even heard of 6.5mm swedish, half of em couldn't even point out sweden on a map."

My condolences.:(

I went with the 30-30. The area that I deer hunt is moderately dense woods. Most shots aren't practical further than 40 - 50 yards. The size of my Marlin 336 makes it a great rifle for walking thru brush to get to my stand.

I don't care much for scoped rifles, so my favorite calibers are those big "knock 'em dead" rounds like a 45/70, 44Magnum, etc. with quality peep sights that I can clearly hit with out to 100 yards. For me, if your live target is beyond 100 yards, you aren't hunting, you're just shooting.
