Local store has two new old stock Burris fixed 30x spotting scopes. Asking $100. Best recearch I see is that they date about 1992.

Looks like current spotters would be more like $300.

Is this a good deal?

got one in one of those scope package deals. Its ok but sure nothing special. If all your doing is looking at groups shot at a 100 yards it will get it done. I leave mine right in my shooting shack. I figure if someone steals it im not out much.

I just purchased a Vanguard Platinum spotting scope.

I purchased the last on of the older platinum series a few days ago for $169, MSRP was $379.00.

I have to say I'm very impressed with this spotting scope. At 100 yards I can clearly see single blades of grass and dew drops on the blades of grass.

I would highly recommend Vanguard optics (I own 2, and even their cheap models are good).

I spoke to Vanguard about their different optics and they stated that the newer model "high plains" models have very similar internal optics to what my older one had. This being said if you find a High Plains model for under 200 dollars on sale it should be very similar to the older platinum series. I know your looking at the 100 dollar range but I'd highly recommend spending another 70-100 dollars for a variable zoom BAK4 optic. And I highly recommend Vanguard.

Burris does make some quality optics and the fixed zoom optics are less expensive than variable zoom optics in obtaining visual clarity. It sounds as though that Burris would likely be good for sighting in a rifle at 100 yards. But with variable zoom it wouldnt be ideal for hunting applications.

My buddy purchased a Barska for 60 dollars on sale. I wouldnt give you 20 dollars for it. Point being.. Look through the scope to see what you think of its optical clarity and see if it suits your applicational use. Also research the glass that they use are using.
