The only choices at the LGS were a Chipmunk, a Cricket, and the Thompson Center. That CZ has had great reviews.
 
Dentite, could you tell us the length of pull on that little Cub? And does it have peep sights? Thanks!

The length of pull is 12". It does have peep sights. For my four year old son I actually unscrew the peep insert leaving the large round hole for him to use. Easier to pick up the target that way. Eventually he'll be able to use the peep with the insert in.

The wood is laminate but stained a uniform brown color (not contrast stained laminate if that makes sense).

Gander mountain had Remington youth single shots, I think they were model 514 for $99.
They are a rebranded Marlin as I recall. I liked them better than the Cricket or Henry as they bolt cocked rather than pulling back a knob and were a little more substanial.
