I just bought my son a PSE recurve. It was $99. It is the Heritage Buckeye. He is 12 and I bought the one with the highest pull weight 35lbs. He can just barely pull it. They offer a few lighter weight options.

He loves it. It is the first bow that he could really do some damage with so I am watching him like a hawk.

The best youth bow out there right now is the Darton Ranger. Its going to go for around 200 for just the bow though. If has draw adjustability of 17-25" wieght adjustment of 15-45 lbs. you can get your 8 year old started with it and it will fit them until they out grow the draw length then you can use it for your younger children again.

Samick bows are reasonably priced , and make great starter bows, check out the fellows at 3 Rivers Archery, they will have some sugestions. These are traditional bows and give a good starting point for young archers.

My kid shoots a Diamond Edge, a little more than 150 with everthing included but a great quality bow. As she gets older and can handle a heavier draw I can have the limbs replaced for $50, which is what sold me. Parker Buckshot also does this.
