Had the wife out the other day shootin' dogs and she was using my son's Mossberg semi. Anyhow, she is only 5'1" and after a day at the gun stores, it plain to see that a youth model fits her much better. So we are on the hunt for a good youth model semi-22lr for her. Suggestions please...

I agree on the 10-22 youth model.

I have fewer problems with 10-22s during range day for hunter education than any other semi out there. They just seem to run and run. And if they jam, they're usually very easy to get cleared and running again.

If you want something more accurate than a 10/22 out of the box, CZ452 Scout.

They don't make them new anymore, but the Marlin 75 and 75C were the carbine versions of the Marlin Model 60.

I've owned... dang, three of them, and they're neat little guns.

You wouldn't happen to live anywhere near Austin?

Mossberg sells the 702 "Plinkster" .22LR youth semi, I bought two of them from Dick's on their day after Thanksgiving sale for $79 ea. They have a few thousand rounds of cheap .22's and they are still goins strong.

Smitty, any chance you would want to trade a regular, brand new synth stock for one of your bantam stocks?

Sure....but you're going to have to wait a few years!! My kids are 10, 8, & 3...

Have you tried to call Mossberg and see if they will sell you a youth stock?? They sell the youth and adult shotgun stocks, I don't see why they wouldn't sell one of the .22 stocks.

Naw, I called Mossberg and they won't sell a stock for the Bantam Plinkster as of yet. No biggie, might still go with the 10/22. If for any reason, I can then find another one down the road and build me one of these to mount on top of the old VeeDub Squareback....hehehe...

Well we decided yesterday on getting her the Ruger 10/22CRR which has the shorter stock. Will be putting it on layaway later today and should have it out on the first of June.

As for the CZ Scout, I am sure it is a great rifle but Christian (theBoss aka wife) is staying pretty solid on her wanting a semi, rather than a bolt.

The Mossberg was bought for my boy due to his age and my pops and I figured go cheap first and then if he can take care of it, then we will consider an upgrade for him. Christian's gun will be very well cared for so we figured to go ahead and get a "better" gun up front for her.

Thanks again for everyone's input on the subject.

Marlin 75 or one of the later carbines would do really well. Nice and light, easy trigger pull on them, accurate and reliable all in a fairly compact package.

Would you rate these as better than a CRR? Did 75s come with tube mags? All I see on their web site is 795 with mags.

See my reply in your other thread.

Yep, 75, 75C, and M99-M1 had tube mags.

I like them more than the CRR. They feel trimmer/lighter, but not at all flimsy. The Rugers always felt a little plump. Plus, I like tube way more than mag. It's counterintuitive, but tubes are really easy to load.

None are still in production, but I've purchased them used for $50-75 in pawnshops, seen them go under $100 online.
