Youtube videos with women shooters messing up.

I was browsing on youtube today and saw videos of these guys recording their girlfriend or wife shooting their high caliber rifles. Some of these videos are successful while the ladies in a few videos had gotten injured because they did not secure the weapon properly in their hand and shoulder.


I am kinda flame up about this because I feel that the person recording these videos may be purposely setting their female friend up for a failure. They might not expect a bleeding nose or cut forehead but was definitely hoping for a comedic affect. Anyone ever been set up for these kinda failures? or have witnessed similar scenarios in their local range?

I never have been on either end of it, and shame on those who would do that.

If I saw it, I think I would probably have words with them. Those words probably wouldn't pass Art's grammaw test.

It is a great way to injure someone, and to turn them off to shooting, and probably shooters in general.

Remember the hotel clerk recently shot by the "gentleman" who doubletapped his snubby and recoiled the second shot through his own head at the same time.

Less funny if you just killed someone you want to keep around by handing them something unsafe to their level of Familiarity.

My brother had a 41 Magnum with a scope on it. I was always amazed at the amount of people who thought a pistol scope worked like a rifle scope, 2" from their eye. I specifically remember one guy who was going to shoot it, he picked the gun up held it 2-3" from his eye and my brother tried to explain to him that wasn't how you use a pistol scope. The guy spouted out something like "I think I know to shoot a ____ pistol" My brother politely said "Okay then go ahead" So he shot (at what I don't know, he couldn't have seen through the scope??) and began to bleed from his head. I wanted to laugh but he still had the gun.

The guy wasn't "set-up" but he was most definitely allowed to learn the hard way. If someone was videoing it, it would have looked like he was set up.

EDIT: It might have been a 454 Casull. He had both and I can't remember which it was, either way it wasn't pretty. Unless you like scars on your face.


I have seen some of the vids your talk about, hopefully most of those women learned something about their boyfriends/husbands as well as a little about handling a gun.

I have never been on either end of that scenario. I watched one, might be the same one that you were looking at where the girl shot the rifle without putting the butt against her shoulder. If I remember correctly the scope popped her in the head and the video was titled "why girls shouldn't shoot guns" or something like that. Should have been titled "why you shouldn't learn to shoot from an dirt bag." And we wonder why some people just don't like guns.

DeepSouth, that might have been funny to watch, but you cant mess around like that with a gun. If the guy wants to do something unsafe with your gun. You gotta call a time out and take your gun back, apparently he wasnt ready to shoot. I had to do this with my lil sister teaching her to shoot. She wasnt taking it seriously and kept laswering my with my own gun. At that point I had to take the gun back and re-go over the safety rules. Its one of those things where you gotta be kinda a jerk about if you think their gonna hurt themself or someone else. Like learning to drive a car, its not a toy.

But anyway back to the OP. Yeah totally agree there. If you gotta see your girl hurt herself to get your rocks off, then your no man.

I avoid videos of 'pranks' being played on women and novice shooters, I priase the videos of new shooters being instructed intellegently.

I've found that there are alot of videos of women and young kids that can shoot better than I can

This sort of behavior is exactly the opposite of what the members at THR are about.

I have trained too many women who had a dad or brother or "boyfriend" or husband who put the most recoil heavy thing they had in the hands of these women an either lied outright about the recoil or had no idea how to show them how to manage it. These creeps usually got a laugh out of endangering the novice shooter and made sure that they never wanted to have anything to do with shooting. When enough time passed and these women has something in their lives motivate them to try to overcome their reluctance to pick up a gun they were surprised to find that they could be taught to shoot using good technique and a manageable caliber.

Guys like these idiots who post these videos on YouTube are not likely to ever be members here.

Agreed, I find these videos very disturbing and I think that they truly make us all look bad. I've helped introduce several young, urban women to shooting who had never fired a gun or considered trying to do so, and seen them have a great time and take to it very well. The idea that some fool would get a trusting person to unknowingly fire a weapon they are unprepared for, video the results and then publicly post it to laugh at is completely reprehensible.

I agree, but I will defend myself a little. It wasn't my gun, wasn't my property, ect. ect. I was just an observer and I've always been a MYOB kind of guy. I was also in my early 20's at the time (and less mature than that) and I had been in the bottle a bit that night as well, something I no longer do. I think I would have to intervene if the same thing were to happen in my presence today.

I think it's asinine to bring a new shooter, regardless of sex, to the firing line with no experience or knowledge of the firearm they're handling, no training whatsoever with firearms... and it's the biggest one you own that they're holding.

Then everyone laughs at them when they drop it, hurt themselves, or whatever.

And half of the gun owners in this country wonder why their significant others don't like their guns. Sheesh.

It's the exact same reason why you didn't buy your teenage son a Shelby Roadster as his first car.

Videos of this type are beyond unfunny. They're cruel, arrogant, and misogynistic. If some punk did this to my daughter and she was injured, I'd return the favor.

From a PR perspective, these videos confirm every fear and stereotype an anti could have: That gun owners are small-minded, reckless fools who are a danger to themselves and others. I put them in the same garbage category as those that Col. David Grossman called "Boobs & Burp Guns".

Saw a guy at a public range do this to his girlfriend. It was a .44 mag Super Redhawk that she had no business firing, and he had no business setting her up for it.
I did speak up and mention I thought it was a mistake, but the young man told me to mind my own business. I told him he'd better get respectful in a hurry. While he was eyeing me for a possible confrontation, his girlfriend touched off the .44, getting herself smacked in the head.

When he laughed and went to help her she kicked him in the crotch.

LMAO, priceless. I'm glad you stood up for her. I doubt they dated long after that.


Broken noses or other facial features are not fun. I would never do anything like that to my gf, mother, or sister in law.

I don't see any malice in letting a lady try a big caliber if they know what they are doing or instructed on how to do so, but intentionally setting them up for a very painful accident is reckless and demonstrates that person's total lack of respect.


This may be my opinion because my gf would kick my butt and run me over if I did this to her, or the fact that I'm actually respectful to people.

I've never let anyone that I didn't think knew what they were doing fire anything that I owned. Some things shouldn't be taken lightly. There isn't a very large difference between a youth, a small woman, or (not to offend anyone) a little guy. I'm only 5'8", 180 lbs. One of my shooting buddies is about 5'4", and maybe 140 lbs soaking wet. I would have no trouble passing him a .50, or 12 gauge with 3.5" slugs.

I posted a few months back about helping out two ladies at the range. While they were shooting a .22LR, I offered both a chance to shoot my G21. With a single round, advice on how to properly hold it, how to bend her elbows just a bit to absorb the recoil. A warning about the kick, and standing at her side to catch it before it could jump far enough to hit her if I was wrong. (Yeah, on the bright side, that one kicks brass at about 60 degrees up and just a little forward, and yes, I trust my reflexes enough to move my hand three inches before the gun moved two feet.) However, with the advice and proper instruction, she fired off a perfect shot, with about as much lift as if I fired off hand.

And this is also why I taught my wife to shoot, as well as why I am teaching all of my children how to handle firearms. I intend for both of my little girls to be able to able to handle whatever firearm they choose to shoot. (They will be the other version of the videos, the cute girls that shoot like pros. Why do you think I am teaching my son how to shoot as well? j/k mods).

I am not so worried about the initial injury, to be honest. As discussed previously, someone could fire again. A broken nose is one thing, a bullet through the nose is quite another.

Unfortunately it's what the audience want to see. Look at the views on these videos then look at the views of women shooting the right way like Julie Goloski, Randi Rogers, or Jesse Abbott.

Since the times of ancient Rome, or even before, the general public has needed only bread and circus. It is so presentable in most "funniest homevideos" shows etc.

I have never had any problems with all the girls and women I have brought to the range. After basic instructions they have been able to handle SMGs, rifles of any sort, beltfeds, pistols. Those who think these videos are funny, are either mentally challenged or do not know better. Latter can be helped, first ones are pathological.

My 11 year old daughter who can shoot any of my guns proficiently thinks that those videos are pretty silly. My kid prefers the MN because it "looks" like a gun that Annie Oakley would have shot. She is also excellent with a .357 4" revolver.

I could care less if people post those videos as they only make themselves look foolish - both the man and the woman. The "victim" has just as many loose brain cells for not applying some common sense.
